COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
American Pale Ale is not only the standard but the foundry for what has inspired the craft beer movement. Here at Charleville we wanted to celebrate the beer style that stands as the corner stone for what has made American craft brewing so great. Our Explicit APA is brewed with five additions of hops prior to the wort passing through the Hopback on its way to fermentation. To complete this full bodied ale dry hops are added during cold maturation to create a hop forward ale, with a transcendental copper hue. 14 Plato ƒ row, Carapils and Crystal malts) 30 IBU (Cascade and Centennial hops)

Bottle. Aroma of floral and citrus hop notes with somewhat toasty, cereal malt notes. Flavor continues to keep the hop flavors popping with a grainy cereal quality that are quite complex for the style. Pretty dry, very drinkable. Tasty stuff.

Bottle courtesy of Strykzone. Pours a clear rich amber with a really aggressive off-white head that lasted a long time and left good lacing. The nose is caramel malts with citrus hops. Medium in body and light in mouthfeel. Flavor is a good balance between roasted caramel malts and citrus and floral hops. Mild bitter finish. Well done APAs are a delight. This is a good one.

Bomber from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours clear amber with a foamy 4 finger off-white head. Aroma through the foam is light citrus over mild caramel. Med body. Flavor is somewhat roasted malt with citrus and floral hop. Nailed the style. Definitely more bitter than not.

02-Dec-09 (22-oz bottle: Purchased 08-Sep-09 for $3.79 at www.wineandcheeseplace.com) Basic in approach, the malt is minimally sweet and has a cereal character while the moderately hops are tea-like and slightly piney with a pleasant orange citrus character and minerals in the background. The nose is orange citrus, tea and stone fruit, but the dry malts add only a modest cereal aroma. Very dry and minerally on the palate, chalky and slightly astringent mouthfeel, moderate carbonation. Hazy golden body has small particles suspended in the beer, and the off-white head pours to half an inch, then over several minutes, settles to a thin, complete cap. Plenty of foamy lacing remains on the glass. Overall, this is fairly average. A touch of malty sweetness, slightly more assertive malt character, and more weight would make this a more balanced pale ale.

phaleslu (3544) - Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - OCT 23, 2010
22 oz. bottle from Wine and Cheese Place. Pours a deep, cloudy orange-gold color with a massive, foamy off-white head and plenty of sediment in the beer. Sloppy lacing. Aroma of caramel malts, citrus, grassy hops, and yeast. Flavor of straw, cedar, soap, mineral notes, citrus and other fruits, and a little spice. Light-bodied, with frothy carbonation and a dry mouthfeel. Dry and bitter finish, evaporates right off the palate. I think this bottle may have been a little old because I’m just not getting much hop character.
