3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Glouglouburp (4782) - Montreal, - AUG 8, 2007
Clear copper body with a short lived beige head. Strong aroma of pine-tree and berries-like fruitiness. Well malted and well hopped beer. Tree bark and pine-tree on toasted brea d. Very woody both in the malt and hops profile. Berries in the back and even distant strawberries. Fruity residual sweetness. Bitterness in the medium-high range. Very fla vourful beer. Another excellent IIPA from Charlevoix. I thought with this one they outdid themselves in the malt department. Huston we have a triumph.

Sampled on tap at Vices et versa. The pour reveals a cloudy amber color with a thin offwhite head. Nice aroma of Apollo hops(smoke, vanilla) and toasted malt. Very good flavor of hops, the Apollo hops provide a pleasant combo of smoke and vanilla, this is not an agressive hops, it does the job with finesse, there’s also a robust malt back-bone and a bitter finish. The body is medium with a creamy texture and moderate carbonation. Superb.

(Rating #1305)

On tap at Vices et Versa. The color is dark amber with a light beige head. The aroma is a mix of hops and malt with a taste of fruiits. You can smell the bitterness of the hops and also taste it This was so great. My kind of beer.

My Bottom Line:
Biscuity caramel maltiness sets the foundation for the deployment of massive wooden, citrusy hoppiness which even branches out into tea-like wetness. This frank and full-bodied Double IPA proves that this Apollo hop has more abilities than intense bittering.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A creamy head of foam settles atop the hazy orange.
-The beer remains balanced in its intensity.
-Frédéric says the hops also smell like "gourganes"...I’d like to agree, but those regional beans are pretty much unknown to me!
-Alcohol heats up the back end, but there is enough hop bitterness to cover most of it.
On tap at the brewery restaurant.
