LadySusan (348), Ste-Therese, Quebec, Canada Jan 5, 2008 On tap at The Saint Pub. The color is amber with a beige head and a lot of lace. The taste is of hops with just a bit of fruit to it. Of course it has that nice bitter taste of a GOOD double I.P.A. Lubiere (3122), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Oct 10, 2007 A dark honey amber ale with a thick lacing off white head. A perfumey peachy hops aroma, with notes of mandarine. In mouth, a resinous hops with biscuitty malt, sustained bitterness and grapefruit. Lighter than expected but very nice. On tap at Vices et Versa, Oct. 7, 2007. Glouglouburp (1829), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Sep 28, 2007 The look: clear dark-copper body with a off-white ring of foam
The style: Typical American-style IPA
The stuff: Weak aroma with a little cat litter. I’m not too found of those smelly hops. Light but sufficient caramelised and honeyed malt base. Body is a bit oily and comes with a light carbonation. Hops have a basic juicy fruity flavour (citrus, orange). Bitterness of medium intensity and length. Charlevoix have been trying many variations of their IIPA using different hops, some offerings were great (Appolo, Simcoe) and some were just good (Amerillo, Columbus). This is a good beer with a been-there-done-that feel to it. This Columbus doesn’t venture into new territories.
The how: On tap at Vices & Versa
The conclusion: Good clean IPA like many others. Charlevoix can do better.
mds (2111), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 28, 2007 Draught. Bright copper with a creamy white head. The aroma is mild and not really very IIPA-like. Some sweet fruits like pear and peaches are evident in almost like a BSA-type concoction. The flavour is less confusing and is more in line with the advertised style. Quite doughy and sweet with some rich and chewy hop and fruit flavours.
Vices & Versa, Montreal.
