argo0 (6231), Washington DC, USA May 30, 2008 (750ml bottle, thanks kmweaver) Large beige head atop hazy dark brown body. Aroma is medium sweet, clove, white wine, dusky, allspice. Taste is moderately sweet, flower, nutmeg, allspice, some alcohol, caramel, peach. Medium-full body, some stickiness. Rastacouere (5409), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Feb 17, 2008 Objectively speaking:
Complex, spicy Belgian strong inspired on their Double.
I like:
Balanced spices level except pepper. Roundness. Classy texture, authentic carbonation.
I’d prefer:
Extra fruity depth. Further control on the pepper. Less higher alcohols. hopdog (4654), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 27, 2008 750ml bottle shared courtesy of dickinsonbeer. Poured a medium and cloudy amber brownish color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of spices, ginger, dark fruits, and bready. Tastes of dark fruits, ginger, spices, and other fruitiness. Light to medium alcohol in the finish. hopscotch (4595), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Jun 5, 2008 Bottle... SMAACMSM O-Town Throwdown, Part Sept... Lightly hazed burnt orange ale with a mid-sized, creamy, khaki-colored head. Fantastic, everlasting retention. Phenolic, earthy nose. Full-bodied with a whole-milk mouthfeel and prickly carbonation. Favors the sweet side of balance. Medium to heavy residual sugar; moderate hop and ethanol bitterness. Caramel or praline. Lengthy, sweet, spicy finish. Kudos to Beerlando for bringing this one to share! MartinT (4377), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Dec 23, 2007 Updated: Feb 15, 2008My Bottom Line:
Black pepper and nutmeg flourish atop the dates and cherries in this chocolatey and masterful Belgian Strong Ale. The estery yeast profile, the authentic mouthfeel and the productive union of maltiness and spices have rendered quite the superlative symphony.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A proud crest of foam decorates the hazy reddish brown.
-Anise-like sweet spiciness emerges from the precise spice interplay, which also seems to include cloves and coriander, amongst others.
-Fertile earthiness also rises from the malt/yeast/spice cohesion.
-The body is healthy and never cumbersome for a beer this gravity.
-I have a feeling the more I have of this one, the more I will increase its points...
-Take a healthy Unibroue’s Trois-Pistoles and blend in a smidge of Dieu du Ciel’s Route des Épices, and you might get an idea of what this tastes like.
Bottles; 2007 vintage.
