We had two bottles of this at Ryan’s hotel room tasting after session one of EBF in Boston. One from 2007, one from 2009. Both pour a milky hazy gold with a medium sized white head. The 2007 has a slightly old hop presence with a hint of packing peanuts. 2009 is similar, but with a light fresh hop presence. Both are crisp, and clean, the 07 picking up a bit of wheat. Finish with a cheesy musky flavor. Pretty tasty.

Hazy golden ale topped by a huge and lasting white head. Superb flowery aromas, notes of citrus as well. Almost full body, intense attack, largely due to high CO2 content, oily, amazing bitterness with loads of flowery, oily and grapefruity flavors, along with some yeasty profile (bubble gum?). Long lingering bitter finish on a very smooth palate and that finishes pretty crisp, no overly sweetness here, wich I generally dislike in belgian style IPA. Highly drinkable begian double IPA. Wonderful stuff and defenitely the best I’ve had from Charlevoix so far.

Golden pour with a huge white head on it. Toasty, herbal aroma. The flavor starts a bit toasty and bready, hits some slightly fruity Belgian yeast complexity, plus some grass and hay, and finishes with some floral, piney, slightly citrusy hops. This is the best hoppy Belgian I’ve had thus far. It is very well balanced between the different elements.

750 mL bottle. Very classy. Hazy orange with a big fluffy white head. Smells like a resiny Belgian ale. Which works. And it works in the flavour as well. Thing is, it’s a very nice Belgian ale; not too sweet, with a nice balance of malt and yeast. And the hops are fresh and in perfect proportion to the sweetness of the malt. Kindof a 70-30 thing, in favour of the hops. The hops are mostly pine, with a touch of herbs. Alcohol is well hidden. Decent body - this one could easily have been too thin. Excellent beer.

Bottle. Nice appearance gold-copper pour with frothy white head. Aroma is pretty complex; belgian yeast, pineapple, orange peel, flowers and pepper. Nice intense flavors with lots of hops, grapefruits, herbs and a tropical fruits fnish. Mouthfeel is quite full with well balanced carbonation. Great beer.

UPDATED: FEB 20, 2010 14,29$ for an amazingly smooth beer reaching 70 IBU. Garden-of-Eden-like aroma, with the flowers God probably prefers. Citrusy Amarillo hops come out just splendidly through the complexity of hop spicyness and the fruity esters developped by the belgian yeast. A lot of similarities with Chouffe Houblon, but quite smoother and and a bit less tongue-tingling. Both are excellent but Lupulus is even better to me.

2 x 750ml bottle 2009 vintage from Monde des Bières. Dranked fresh 2 weeks after release
Appearance : Hazy gold with huge rocky head. Fluffy and long lasting.
Aroma : Very yeasty with lots of banana. Fruity with some hops. Hints of passion fruit
Taste : Quite yeasty with strong notes of banana. Some hops also.
Finish : Dry, bitter and yeasty
Overall : Got consistently better as we went thru the bottle. Very intense but mellow at the same time because of the yeasty/banana notes. Really crisp bitterness. Amazing stuff.

Thanks to sflpunk for this one. 2007 bottle: pours a hazy gold with a big frothy head. Aroma has yeast, citrus, orange, and coriander- smells like it may have been fuller when fresh. There are also some herbal notes on the nose; maybe a bit of parsley. Upon sipping, the alcohol becomes more pronounced. Flavor starts with teh sweetish citrus, then moves to a spicy and bitter stage. Would be interested to try this fresher and get the full shot of Simcoe. Palate isn’t particularly full, but I like the spicy and dry finish. Really solid brew.

Courtesy of SFLPunk- thanks Jeff. Vintage 2007. Appearance is hazy golden with an excellent white foam that dissipates slowly leaving excellent lacingy Lots of carbonation. Aroma is citrus, coriander, and some yeasty dough. Orange peel abounds with some earthy herbal notes coming through more subtly. Flavor is quite hoppy with alcohol notes present. Pretty bitter, but the citrus sweetness that prevails in the aroma is just as prevalent in the flavor. Some herbal tones and elements from all over my spice cabinet. Palate is medium full for the style, with quite the dry finish. Intriguing- many of the flavor are hard to place but they yield with warming and continued quaffs. Very intriguing.

750ml. bottle, thanks a million to Glouglouburp! Slightly hazy golden color with a huge rocky white head. Grassy, floral aroma with a bit of black pepper and honey. Flavor starts off mildly sweet and doughy, before turning drier with the grassy/flowery hops taking over. A bit musty, like my glass has been in a cobweb filled basement for a long time. Some spiciness on the finish. A very nice beer. Thanks Dany!
