4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
First off, a major thanks to glouglouburp for sending this rarity to the U.S. from Montreal. I opened this one with wetherel and Sean at the PP Bottle Shop with a few other new faces. Massive head formation upon pouring, ending up in a fluffy pillow head with substantial lacing. Bountiful carbonation throughout the clean and clear golden color. Pretty impressive aroma that I considered as this beer’s best display of character. Lots of coriander, fresh orange peel and yeasty biscuit tones. Also a touch of funkiness that almost suggests this is a Brettanomyces beer, but I assume its the unique contribution from Saaz hops used. The flavor is very floral; with juniper and lavender that transitions to a strong bitter finish, like a Saison on steroids. Tingly and smooth palate with a doughy undertone. Overall, damn good for the style, like Chouffe Houblon, but I can’t say its my favorite...or worthy of the Top 50 either.

Tried from the funky bottle that hapjydeuce brought to the bottle shop. Lots of carbonation on first pour with a 2 finger white foamy head that fades at a medium rate. Yellow color. Lots of bubbles climbing the glass inside the liquid. Phenolic Belgian triple aroma, I’m not sure from what. Possibly a combination of yeast and high brewing temperature. My first guess was the beer was finished with Brett. It has a nice plastic Brett aroma and it has high carbonation, meaning the Brett had eaten some complex sugars after bottling. You can notice the Saaz hops too, even though they are not overwhelming. Easy to drink. Here’s a beer for the "Orval should be a top 50 beer" fans. I’m not one of those people. It’s just a good triple to me.

Thanks a million to Glouglouburp for sharing. This beer was very dry, sweet, hoppy and yet had an amazing balance to it. Flavor also had some pepper spicy notes. Very nice beer.

750 ml. The color is a nice honey with a thick white head. and a lot of lace. The aroma is sweet and fruity. The taste is of hops +++ and the taste of citrus and pine. The bitterness is just a perfect ending to this beer. This beer could compete with the best from Belgium any time and win.

Bottle shared by that crazy Quebec dude, glouglouburb. Perfect fluffy white head. Aroma is peppery, minty, spicy meaty and cotton candy in the nose. Almost too good to drink but not quite.
Flavor has many of the same with chouffe yeast. Sofa King awesome!

Bottle courtesy of glouglouburp. So there’s this brewer who takes one of my favorite types of hops, takes an already amazing recipe, adds said hops, then ferments it with a Belgian yeast strain that yields a funkiness that rivals Orval. That beer is Charleioux Dominus Vobiscum Lupulus. Pours a perfect gold with a huge white head and a generous amount of sustained bubbles. Smells of perfume, some signature simcoe, citrus, oranges, lots of dry malt, some funky rustic saison like hints, caramel sugar, some pepper. This seriously has one of the best noses of any beer I’ve ever quaffed. Taste lives up to the aroma nicely. Lots of dryness, oranges, pepper, spice, light bitterness, sage, this truly runs the gambit. Mouthfeel is tingly and combines the American hops with the saaz to perfection. Finish is dry with a touch of crushed pepper. It’s hard to believe this is 10% ABV as it is hidden extremely well. Excellent!

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: MAR 31, 2009 Mostly clear gold colored body with a fluffy, pillowy, finely-bubbled white head. The nose is huge – yeast, pillowy, fresh, hoppy, funky, you name it… hints of Taras Boulba at times, with that funk/perfume/spice deal going on all over this beer… the body is light, airy, moderately dry, and it tastes of coriander, black pepper, dried hops, lemon zest, funky saison yeast… damn good, and better with each sip. Seriously contender in the whole Belgian funky/IPA style…

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: APR 23, 2008 750mL bottle, courtesy of Glouglouburp. Thanks, Dany! Pours a slightly hazy, golden-orange color; huge, textured off-white head with excellent retention and medium-bubbled lacing; a gorgeous pour. Solid amounts of tropical fruits, pine, and orange hops in the aroma; esters, toasty bread, and an intricate yeast character; well-integrated, and a great balance between the hops and Belgian character. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: chewy Belgian sugar, complex yeast, and plenty of mineral and piney hoppiness; no alcohol showing; excellent mouthfeel: creamy, solid bitterness balancing with a dense, sweet Belgian core; the best example I’ve ever had of a hoppy Belgian beer (from Canada, no less!); intensely drinkable, dry, and generous; excellent stuff. Lengthy finish: residual pine and mineral bitterness, breadiness and dough, and some lingering Belgian sugars.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Courtesy of kmweaver. Hazy golden body with a giant, rocky white head. Spicy, herbal nose with grass, honey, cotton candy, dough and light citrus. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter with lots of herbal, citrus, pine and citrus hops, honey, cotton candy, dough and golden fruits. Medium body is soft with moderate carbonation. A very pleasant surprise!
