UPDATED: JUL 5, 2012 My Bottom Line :
This intricate Saison’s display of flavors wows at every sip, showing off spicy hops, doughy yeast, orangey fruitiness and bready malts coalescing into a herbal hop finish awash in fluffy natural effervescence.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A fluffy head of foam settles atop the cloudy golden.
-This is intelligently spiced.
-Drinkability is sky high, as is authenticity.
-Citrusy angles appear here and there, and herbal hop bitterness develops with every sip. Perfect dosage, imho.
-This is not the kind of Saison that will explode onto your palate with tons of spices or hops; it is a nicely balanced one with an authentic flavor profile and mouthfeel which is meant to be quenching. Great job, Charlevoix!

2012-06-07. Hazy orange body with a nice off-white head. Pleasant flavour, nice bitterness, light estery fruit, light zippy peppery spice. 7+ Aroma is similar, mild peppery spice character, muted pale malt below. 7+ Average plus palate is fairly carbonated, pleasantly so. Really nice! On tap at Mondial, Montreal

Bottle, shared with guests,(but I will be getting more to have all to myself). Pale yellow, hazy, with a towering bubbly head that shows excellent retention. Aroma is yeasty, spicy, maybe some hay, I don’t know-- I just want to drink it! Lovely profile that balances yeast, spice, and hops to create a delicate palate of flavours including chamomile, lemon peel, hay, light dough, and white pepper. Beautifully composed, refreshing, so nice. Man these guys can brew beer!

Draft @ Delirium.

Aroma: strong wheat notes , slight grassy feel with soft wheat wrap. Aromatic rendering of weizen.
Look: clear golden with large creamy off white top. Remnants of lace. Handsome.
Taste: full bodied. Golden malts blended with wheat softens on Belgian yeast. Nice play. I am not sure if I would put this under saison. Belgian wheat with American bend.

Tap at Hoppy Loft. Lemony, grainy, rich nose. Pretty deep golden color. Lemony, wheaty, creamy flavor. Nicely tangy, with orange. A bit too rich and malty for a saison, but a good beer.

On tap at Brouhaha, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma of light Belgian yeast, some biscuity malt - not a whole lot here. Flavour of Belgian yeast, some candied sugar and soft malt backing, no hop presence. Medium carbonation and lightly sweet (more than a traditional saison though). Decent, but not my type of saison - prefer it more wild and funky.

750 ml bottle. Pours a yellow colour with a large foamy head. Aroma of grainy malts, grassy hops and some citrus. Flavour is very grainy with some floral hops, pear, grass and caramel. Medium bodied and a bit harsh and annoyingly high carbonation. Nothing fancy.

75 cl bottle.
Pours clear pale golden color with a large head. Spicy herbal aroma with earth and some fruits. Strong carbonation, yeast, toffee, and fruits on the flavor, mild spice notes and some hay. Balanced and tasty, hoped for more though.

UPDATED: AUG 19, 2013 Beautiful white tower above the just as beautiful cloudy blonde pour. Fragrant, almost perfumey nose where cracker-like malts are quickly taken over by the intensely yeasty aromas that bring a broad fruit array, white dough and an intricate spicy complexity that bears more than a little of the Charlevoix house character (kinda lemony coriander-cinnamon notes surrounded by sweetish pie dough). In mouth, the larger than average bubbles feel authentic, if perhaps not as agressive than in many Belgian examples. The malt character is full, procuring a very forward breadiness that feels pastry-like and makes this Saison thicker than average, but agreeably so and still drinkable a plenty. It is accompanied by a serious hoppiness at the same time, adding citrusy notes and a limited, balanced bitterness that adds to the dryness perception when paired with the carbonation. Curious how one sip calls for another. They must have nailed this one pretty well, it has kept the distinctive Charlevoix character while highlighting nicely the contributions of each ingredients and remaining very drinkable. And the price tag feels easy enough at comfortably less than 10$ per 750 ml. That’s actually something I’ll buy regularly this Summer. A welcome addition to the already neat DV line.
