(Rating #4098)

Bottle thanks to pushkinwow. Slightly hazy golden yellow pour, rocky white head. Bready sweet malts, caramel, light citrus, and musty hay-like hops. Decent, but no where near as hoppy as west coast beers, much more malt forward, not necessarily a bad thing.

My Bottom Line :
Floral hop notes get smothered in honeyed malts in this slick and resolutely bitter Double IPA.

Further Personal Perceptions :
-A lofty foam bulb decorates the misty pale amber, lacing well throughout the pint.
-The nose is quite weak for a Double IPA.
-The resinous hop bitterness is compact.
-There isn’t much complexity to speak of, but it’s still a well-executed strong ale.
-If these Vache Folles dropped the ’Double IPA’ moniker, I’d probably enjoy them more.

Bottle.

pours hazy and orange colour, big frothy head. aromas are floral, hoppy, and a hint of banana. It also has a stewed fruit or ketchup chip aroma. has a certain sweetness about its flavour, again this banana note, and a rich creamyness as well. bitter and slightly spicy this brew is interesting but it’s not one for the history books.

500mL bottle, pours a cloudy golden orange with a medium white head. Aroma is quite sweet, with herbal and floral hops, sweet candied caramel malts, pineapple and some other tropical fruits. Flavour of candied sugar, banana (?!), pineapple, and some citrusy fruits - sweet malty backbone without the beer feeling very heavy. Cloyingly sweet, with a nasty medicinal, cough syrupy finish - doesn’t drink very easily, nor do the flavours seem to be in harmony. Weird and somewhat offensive IIPA.

Bottle, thank you Colin and Kendra! Golden yellow, some bubbles, ice cream frothy white head. Not familiar with this hop but it smells spicy in strong aroma. Taste - very strong spicy hop taste over medium bubbly body. Really strong warm and burning alcohol in long finish. Packs a spicy strong punch! Almost overwhelms. Not my favourite way to go with a double IPA - citrus please :) - but this is well made and very interesting. And bold.

In short: A golden IPA with a bright flavor profile. Surprisingly refreshing.
How: Bottle 500ml, consumed very fresh one week after the beer release
The look: Clear shinning golden body topped by a small off-white head
In long: Nose has a pleasant sharp grassy, lemony and citrusy hops signature. The aroma is a bit brighter than what I got used from the other Vache Folle Double IPAs. Taste has plenty of crisp sweet cereals with a sweetness that is a lot more honey than it is caramel. Moderately fruity with pineapples, usual citrusy fruits and even some bananas. There is a fresh green grassy character to this hops that is reminiscent of a fresh hop IPA. Alcohol very well hidden. The big malted body doesn’t feel heavy with the active medium carbonation. This is overall sharp and really refreshing IIPA that is very easy to drink. A decent beer, and yet another rating of a Charlevoix beer for me. I love sitting with a beer in front of my computer and rating beers, but if there is one thing I’ve learned from spending so much time in the virtual world that is ratebeer is that eventually I have to go back out into the real world and deal with real people… to get more beers to rate on ratebeer.

500 ml bottle purchased at Peluso (Montreal) on March 18, 2012. Honey blonde, medium head. Aroma of hops and pine, slightly sweet. Sweet taste of pine hops with notes of herbs dry, dry and light bitterness. Not bad, maybe to much pin!?

Got this in two trades, so thanks to pushkinwow and slovaksniper! Orangey copper with a big head that leaves a ton of lacing. Floral and herbal, a bit piney aroma. Starts quite sweet with a bitter finish. Pretty good but forgettable beer.

500ml bottle. Pours a clear rusted golden colour with lots of sticky off-white head. A little weak on the nose with a very candy impression that has a spruce tip edge to it with some malt (but not much). Very underwhelming nose. Much punchier on the palate with all of the same notes coming through in louder volume. Not overly bitter in the finish (tempered by that really sweet hit in the front end).

Spicy fruity hop aroma. A bit of light hop flavour. Citrus/ tangerine and some soft fruit. Lightly malty with some peppery ethanol. Decent stuff although a bit sweet for my tastes.
