3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 probstblueribbon (2418) - Nepean, Ontario, - DEC 4, 2009500 ml bottle from Marche Jovi, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.
App.: Clear copper with a nice light tan froth.
Aroma: Some nice pine and citrusy hops, a good balance of crunchy, sweet malts, lightly fruity, earthy and nutty, a little earthy, floral honey and pepper, quite nice.
Palate: Medium body with soft effervescence, syrupy.
Flav.: Big gobs of boozy, fruity malt, some nice floral, peppery, pine hop notes, dark dried fruits, lots of caramel/toffee, some burnt sugar and light molasses; fairly sweet with decent bitterness and light woody alcohol to finish.
Not exemplary for the style, but still quite enjoyable.

Backlog - May 13, 2010. 500ml bottle shared with blankboy and garthicus. Clear orange-copper with a small frothy off-white head (3+). Orange juice-sweet aroma, floral, with citrus zest and only moderate alcohol, less than 9% to my nose. The taste - wow, tons of floral/citrus bitterness backed nicely by solid orange juice/pineapple malt - sweet, but not too sweet - well-balanced, alcohol doesn’t really figure into it, but it’s sure there. Thick-bodied, borderline acidic mouthfeel, only mildly carbonated but still leaving a long tingly bitter finish - mmmmmm goood!

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Lubiere (8335) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 23, 2010
An orange amber IPA with a thick moka head. In aroma, lots of biscuitty malts with nice floral vs British hops, not as citrusy as more conventional c-hops, nor as resinous. In mouth, a smooth oily malt with very intense european hoppings, quasi Belgian in character, very well balanced and pleasant. Loads of warming alcohol reamaining in mouth.

Bottle [500ml] shared with HogTownHarry & garthicus -- c/o HogTownHarry. Pours a deep orange-copper with an average size frothy white head. Decent lacing on the glass. Aroma of resiny hops backed by caramel malt and citrus. Flavour of resiny hops, caramel malt and fruit -- sticky and sweet, a bit too much so. Decent bitter finish and the alcohol’s well hidden. Medium bodied. Not great, just pretty good.

Thanks to HogTownHarry. Appearance: golden orange with a frothy snow white head. Aroma: caramel, slight hops, peach, a little alcohol & raisins. Flavour: Super sweet hops, sticky, lots of caramel, bitter too. Wow, long burning sweetness in the finish. Weird.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Lanchester (176) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - APR 2, 2010
Pours a pleasing deep amber with a quickly receding head and nice lacing. Aroma is of sweet caramel with plenty of terpenic character from the Bravo hops. Taste is a rich and resinous hop profile right up front, yielding to a slight bitterness in the finish with minimal alcoholic heat in the background. Very easy drinking for the alcohol content; softly carbonated while still being syrupy on the palate. Nicely done.
