Hazy dark orange pour with an off-white head. Sweet, malty nose with a lot of biscuit and candied orange. Light pine, some floral hops, and a bit of peach and sweet apple. Flavor is fairly sweet up front. Some pine bitterness, light grass, and herbs. Plenty of biscuit malt, some sweet candied citrus, and a sweet apple flavor. Moderate caramel character to it as well.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 HogTownHarry (5639) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - SEP 15, 2012
November 24, 2011 - with blankboy, jerc and mabel. 500ml bottle c/o J&K. Slightly hazy amber-gold, somewhat small creamy/fizzy beige head. Aroma is sweet yet pungently bitter - cereal, citrus, mild tropical fruit (7-). Taste is fairly pungent and catty, sneaky boozy, fairly well balanced. Chewy, acceptable carbonation, finishes alcohol-dry, medium-long. Ehhh.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 radiomgb (2143) - Peterborough, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 7, 2012
Clear copper in colour with a thin but long lasting creamy white head, excellent lacing. The aroma is of light hops, herbal and grassy with just a hint of citrus, some caramel. The flavour is hoppier then the aroma thankfully with a light bitterness, caramel sweetness, bready with some toasted malt. Bitter mouthfeel, medium/light body, moderate carbonation. Finishes long, dry and bitter.
Not one of the better beers from Charlevoix. Barely an IPA let alone a Double.
500ml bottle from Marchi Jovi in Gatineau, Quebec.
Opened on April 3, 2011.
Bottled on February 17, 2011.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 HeistAlmighty (818) - Saint John, New Brunswick, CANADA - APR 22, 2012
500ml bottle. Pours a cloudy orange/amber with a good sized yellowish head. Aroma is quite malty sweet and the hops are a strong spicy, floral, tropical quality, but maybe not as strong as one would expect from a DIPA. Mild molasses/brown sugar cookie malt sweetness, tropical and floral hop bitterness, with some earth on the finish. Body was suitable for a DIPA. Overall, an interesting experiment and a good beer, but not the best DIPA.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 mabel (5043) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 22, 2012
[4146-20111124] 500mL bottle. Mild leafy resin hops aroma. Slightly hazy, orange body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. Bitter heavy citrus malt and toasted lemon peel flavour. Full body. The most bitter of the three we’ve tried tonight, quite good. (7/4/8/4/16) 3.9

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 blankboy (5152) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 6, 2012
Bottle [500ml] shared with HogTownHarry, jerc & mabel -- c/o j&m. Nov. 2011. Pours a slightly hazy golden-orange with a small long-lasting frothy off-white head. Aroma of spicy & catty hops along with sweet malt, lightly floral as well. Fruity, hoppy flavour along with sweet malt and light alcohol. Average bitter finish. Average to medium bodied. Pretty good, we’ve had 3 of the Vache Folle hop series in a row and they were all somewhat similar.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jercraigs (6477) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 27, 2011
2011-11-24. Crisp orange body, small foamy beige head. 3+ Modest bitterness in the flavour, herbaceous green hoppy character, mild citrusy hops are muted. 6+ Leafy herbaceous hop aroma has an interesting quality to it, leafy hops, something like dried maple leaves? 6+ Smooth average plus palate. Alcohol is slightly more prominent than the previous two Vache Folle’s. Okay. Bottle from Dépanneur Peluso, Montreal

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 VT (796) - Quebec City, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 26, 2011
From a 500 ml bottle into a tulip glass. Tasted alongside with Charlevoix’s Vache Folle Double IPA Yeomans, to try and underline the differences. This one felt more complex, possibly due to the lower level of aggressiveness in the bitter taste. It allowed for more subtle sweet and floral flavors to show. Not being a big fan of IPAs, I can nonetheless say I would drink this one again anytime.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 wnoble (920) - French Lick, Indiana, USA - NOV 16, 2011
Thanks to Stephen! Pours clear amber with a small head. Nose is spicy and esters like mild Belgian yeasts. Flavor lends green grassy hops, some mints, earth, caramel malts are mild but present. Finishes bitter and interesting. I have not had any IIPA quite like this one. glad to try but not the citrusy American versions I am used to.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 kevinsenn (552) - Waterloo, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 5, 2011
500mL bottle in "La Vache Folle" 4-pack from Broue Ha Ha. Pours hazy amber. Aroma is grassy hops. Taste is a strange sour/grassy-hop flavour. "?" describes it perfectly. Nice bitter finish. Not bad, but I’m not in love with it. Edit: my wife says it tastes like "Marmite", and I think she’s right.
