500ml brown bottle. Deep brown/black colour. Brown head is compact, slightly creamy, leaves little lacing. Nose has some noticable alcohol right off the bat, below that is some chocolate malt. Robust roasted malt bitterness, chewy, light coffee, dark choclate, pretty dry, some minor alcohol notes in the finish. Roasty, bitter aftertase. Has a finely carbonated body that is a bit light in the mouth for an impy stout. Overall, pretty good, not as rich as some impys out there, but worth drinking.

It takes a while to get the aroma, the head is large and thick and surprisingly resilient. When you do get it its a dark, almost smokey malt. Dark with just a few hairs of brownish on the square edges where the light can get through. Strong and solid dark malt flavour engulfs your mouth and goes all the way to your stomach. after you get a few sips in the 9% warms you up a bit. Or maybe its -25 out. a bit of a bubby from that tastes like malt lingers on your throat. kind of weird. A very sturdy stout, flavour starts to become more pointed as you get into it. I think thats the lactose flavour. alcohol becomes more apparent in the flavour.

UPDATED: OCT 29, 2015 Originally rated in 2009 A: roasty, chocolate, dark caramel, light coffee app: pitch black small beige head t/p: full body sweet and medium long finish with a touch of roastiness at the end. Velvety texture. O: the lactose helps making the beer smooth. Itís a little too smooth for my taste. The alcohol is barely noticeable.

Bottle shared at the DC Local tasting. Pours an opaque, viscous black with a foamy beige head. Nose has chocolate, spices, cinnamon with some light toast. Thereís almost a dustiness to the nose. Flavor is chocolate, toast, nutty. Heavy and thick in the mouth with a lactic feel.

Poured out a near black brew, one that seemed to ooze out of the bottle neck producing almost half a glass of foamy medium-dark brown cap that sticks pretty good to the glass with all the messy, silty lacing. Interesting aroma - in the way that has me wondering how much I will like this beer. I didnít have to search for the aroma in my glass. Milky, medium chocolate of the non bitter variety, mild yet forward roast, good nutty quality, there is an undertone spice here... cinnamon? licorice? and a hint of hops... either way, this spice gives this beers aroma a soft pat on the bottom that it needs to keep from being boring. After sneaking a taste I realized that this beer doesnít match bluesy Zeppelin one bit. Tons of chocolate on the first taste, a creamy milk chocolate, one that was made with an extra squirt of syrup, large roasted malts (ones that kind of remind me of a sweet bock I had recently), dark fruit, a hint.. maybe a hint of coffee. Goes back smooth, minor carbonation, pretty damn thick stuff, leaves a long lingering aftertaste of burnt sugar. The bitterness is amazingly faint. More fruit and toffee show up near the bottom of my glass. Never noticed the 9%. I donít see ever buying this again as this type of flavour comes across too sweet for my liking.

2009-12-11. Black body with a modest dark tan head. 4+ Aroma is interesting, with an odd lactic note accenting the roasty character. 6+ Flavour is similar, roasty dry malt, sweet dark malt base, lingering bitterness in the finish and a light tangy bite/undertone. 7+ Smooth average to medium bodied palate. 3+ Pretty solid stout. Bottle, medium tan head sticks to edges of glass. Milky caramel nose with more milk on the palate marrying well with dark cocoa and espresso notes. Nice long sweet chocolate milk finish.
