My first ever milk stout pours jet black with a substantial rocky cap. Wow. What a slender & silky sipper this is. I get thick cocoa, double-double coffee & the slight reverb of caramel. Fantastic brew. Mouthfeel is velvet. Alcohol is on stealth here. The PRO here is the silken texture & flavourful balance. The CON here is the lack of imperial stout ’boom’ that I love about the style.

Milk chocolate, sweetness, roasted malt, not overly complex but smells nice. Dark black with a long lasting brown head, looks quite nice. Tastes quite delicious, with some sweetness and leafy hop character upfront while finishing with nice roasted malt notes and a caramelized sugar sweetness. Medium/light bodied and average carbonation. Hides it’s alcohol content very well, would never know this is an imperial without looking at the ABV. Good stuff.

500ml bottled on Feb. 04, 2013. Pours a very dark brown/black with a one and a half finger, frothy tan head that leaves a solid amount of lacing to coat the glass. Aroma is noticeable. Big roasted notes with chocolate, caramel, alcohol, and a hint of creamyness. Smells really good without being overly sweet. Taste is balanced but leaning towards bitter with a roasty and chocolaty aftertaste. Full body with a medium carbonation. Not overly sweet with a creamy texture in the mouth. Very drinkable but you may want to sip rather than chug. Overall this is a great beer. Solid aroma and taste with a superb, creamy, mouth feel. I’m really glad this isn’t that hard for me to get. I will be buying more. Cheers!

(500mL bottle from LCBO) Pours black with a dense, dark tan head that leaves loads of lace. Aroma is sweet cocoa, caramel, roast, some berry notes, musty, metallic undertone. Flavour sweet toffee/dark fruit to start, develops more of a cocoa/chocolate milk character in the middle, bit of licorice, cocoa powder and cream/almost off milk towards the finish with a little roast and some herbal hop character, with sweet lactose persisting on the tongue. Mouthfeel is creamy, medium-full, enough carb to break the creaminess, no alcohol heat. This is a funny imperial stout, without the huge flavour concentration I associate with the style. Very balanced, but not punchy when cold and prone to warm-milk flavours once it gets to room temp. Has a sweet spot. A half-pint is a fine serving, I’d say.

500 mL bottle. Pours black with a thick and lacy hot cocoa coloured head. Aromas of bittersweet chocolate, roasted malt and roasted fruits. Nice lactose sweetness, offset by a boozy bite and highly kilned malty goodness. Full and coating on the palate with moderate carbonation and a slightly souring aftertaste. Leaves the glass a special kind of filthy; a sipper.

50 cl bottle @ lusikka, bottled 23.01.2013
Aroma has sweet cocoa notes, some toffee, coffee and hints of ash. Flavour has sweet sugary notes, some cocoa, milk chocolate, hints of ash and coffee. Also hints of licorice. Too much on the sugary and lactic side.

olio (5855) - Tampere, FINLAND - SEP 24, 2013
50 cl bottle.
Pours black color with a large frothy beige head. Aroma has some mild spice notes, dark chocolate, roasted malty notes and faint metallic notes also. Flavor is somewhat sour or a bit lactic with milky chocolate, mild toasty malts, distant dark fruits and some ash. Not very pleasant combination of flavors. Disappointing.

500 ml bottle.
Pours a pitch black colour with a beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, milk chocolate, lactose and tobacco. Flavour of roasted malts, lemongrass, some metallic notes, sugary sweet, vegetables, grass and milk chocolate. Medium bodied, smooth mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Definitely off somehow.
