UPDATED: APR 2, 2015 Jet black color with generous beige head. Aroma is chocolaty, with espresso, caramel and roasted malts. Very silky. Taste is roasty, with cocoa, coffee and caramel, very balanced with the lactose and a slightly bitter finish.

Excellente Stout impériale. Tout ce qu’on peut demandé dans le style. Café, chocolat, crème, légère amertume des houblons. Sucré. Tout est agréable est bien dosé.

Dang good, but not my MOOOOOooost favourite Sweet Stout. It smells like a more bitter, boozed and coffee’d up chocolate milk. That’s a good thing I reckon. Pours bliggity black with a foamy tan head that hits the hay quick but leaves a dreamy lacing. The taste is bittersweet, hints of booze creep through but are overwhelmed by tasty and rich chocolate and light coffee. The milkiness is definitely present in both sweetness and texture; a silky smooth and low carbonated onyx potion pervades the mouth. A fun brew to moo moo moo munch on.

This is one heavy hitting brew. Pours jet black with a large creamy tan head. Aromas of sweetened dark chocolate, coffee, caramel, and a wee bit of booze. Theres a medium-full body with average carbonation and a slightly oily mouthfeel. Tastes pleasantly sweet, but not overly so. There is a slight booze flavor, just enough to know its there. Really solid beer.

500 ml bottle. Pours a near opaque brown with a large mocha coloured head. Aromas are chocolate, coffee (subtle), a little bit of black liquorice. Tastes are definite black liquorice, bitter coffee, a little bit of alcohol. Full body, medium carbonation, long bitter coffee finish. Interesting.

Pours nearly complete black with just a hint of ruby around the margins, two fingers of fine beige head diminishing gradually to a thick cap, excellent lacing (5/5). Nose is dark roasty malt, coffee, dark fruit (8/10). Taste is moderate to strong sweet malt, moderate bitter, vinous tang (8/10). Medium body, slightly oily yet sticky texture, soft carbonation, with a lingering bitter finish and gentle alcohol warming (4/5). Not quite what I was expecting and certainly slightly different from other milk stouts I’ve had. That being said, it grows on you after the initial shock. I think it’s the bitterness - despite the lactose sweetness and smoothness, there’s still very strong bitterness present here, manifesting as a coffee astringency, but also a vinous tartness. Tastes much more bitter than the 30IBU rate beer claims, making me wonder if it might benefit from some cellaring time - I’m putting one away for a year or two to see whether that’s the case. Not my favourite example of the style, but certainly not without its charms. (15/20)

Pours black with no light getting through, but a ruby brown shine at the base when tilting glass into light. 1.5 finger mocha head. Unproportional retention, but really beautiful lacing! Like picture worthy lacing! Nose: Fresh Skim Milk, Coffee, Chocolate. Taste: Something I cant put my finger on!!!! Its probably the first taste of the lactose, which I get right after..coffee & chocolate of course, at 9% ABV im getting a bit of alcohol which is expected, but tolerable. Say in comparison to St. Ambroise who do an imperial stout at 9.2% ABV and its a little hard to drink, but this is perfect. Mouth: Some good body from the lactose, which they do specify on the bottle. Low to low-medium carbonation. A tad of stickiness around the lips. Overall: "SOMETHING DIFFERENT", a good stout with a twist, i think brewing with lactose really sets it apart. Very very good honestly, and at 9% ABV these 500ml bottles will give you a buzz which makes this a nice after-dinner couch beer!
