3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Boutip (3458) - Gatineau, - FEB 14, 2007
Bottle: Poured a deep black color stout with a nice dark brown foamy head with pretty good retention and lacing. Aroma of medium roasted malt with a nice touch of lactose. Taste of roasted chocolate malt is pretty dry with no noticeable hops. I’m not sure if my mouth was playing trick with me but I could really distinguish lactose in there. Interesting take on a style that I don’t have access to very often.
4.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Lukaduke (120) - Portland, Maine, USA - MAY 28, 2012
Pours a rich black color color with a mocha head that umps out of the glass and rocks out for the entire length of the beer and the lacing damn I still got foam on the non drinking sides lip this head is sticky ! Anyway on the aromas I get a nice earthy wood mixed with figs, cherries, milk chocolate and subtle hints of smokey licorice. On the palate you get all those lovely flavors that appeared via the nose. Great balanced imperial stout...
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 mdnguyen (2) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 26, 2012 does not count
The pour: a nice warm black with a persistent and rich reddish-cream head. The aroma: strong notes of burnt caramel, followed by roasty malts, molasses, and dark chocolate with hints of coffee. The taste: Bold yet easy drinking, best enjoyed slowly with a sweet start and pleasantly lingering bitterness to finish. The verdict: a true indulgence and pleasure to drink.

Dark, rich, lots of flavor. No bitter after taste. For a strong dark beer it is easy to drink again and again.

Bottle 500 ml [2010]. Appearance: Pours black with a small beige head. Some lacing. Aroma: Chocolate, burnt caramel, roasted malt, coffee, smoke. Taste: Sweet, chocolate (milk?), burnt caramel. Palate is creamy. Slight bitterness at the end. Overall: Good beer, but a bit thin for an imperial stout. Lack a little complexity.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 ontbeermaker (1406) - Ontario, CANADA - APR 1, 2012
Lots of chocolate in the aroma, the flavour was infact milky and it was creamy, yet smooth. overall tasty stuff
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 glennmastrange (1636) - hobe sound, Florida, USA - MAR 1, 2012
Bottle. Moderate to heavy malt notes of toasted, molasses, dark chocolate and strong coffee, light perfume and dough for the hops and yeast, with background notes of raisin, fig and cinnamon. Head is huge, fizzy turning rocky, light brown with excellent crusty like whipped cream lacing and is fully lasting. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts lightly to moderately sweet and acidic, then finishes lightly sweet and acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is medium to full, dry with a fizzy carbonation. Careful pour this beer, the head is overflowing the glass before you know it. It’s a full bodied Imperial Stout with lots of flavor, but it is a touch out of balance.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 UM02 (207) - Quebec, CANADA - FEB 26, 2012
Deep and rich tasting but at the same time mild. There is some nice roasty malt taste and chocolate flavour but the lactose flavour is also noticeable. The lactose is pleasant but also seems to tone down the roast and chocolate flavour a bit making it a bit milder than I prefer an imperial stout to be. The high alcohol is barely noticeable. Well done stout but I would prefer a bit more intensity. It has taken me a long time to review it here but this was the beer that introduced me to Microbrasserie Charlevoix several years ago.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 Narnad (1147) - Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA - FEB 8, 2012
Pours from the bottle with a 1-inch creamy tan head, deep brown color with some ruby highlights as light passes through. Aroma hits your nose as soon as the bottle is opened. A roasted, chocolate character with some modest lactose sweetness later and some finishing toasted notes. Flavor has an early coffee with cream type flavor, deep roasted malt notes and some chocolate creep up in the middle with a sweetness and light Merlot wine note at the very end. Beer looks thin but feels hefty. Low carbonation with a slight dryness to the finish. Overall the beer is pretty good. The nose is amazing but the flavor is just okay. Was expecting a little more deeper flavor I guess from the nose.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 reebtogi (2169) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 23, 2012
500ml bottle pours almost black in color with a 2 finger thick beige head that retains well eventually leaving some nice lacing on the glass. Aromas of chocolate and roasted malts dominate with some coffee and other grains. Taste is roasted malty bitterness with some chocolatey sweetness and a mild hop bitterness with some coffee notes. Impressive carbonation and body, nicely balanced. Outstanding.

Bottle from La Vache Folle mix pack, from Broue Ha Ha. Bottle got a little shaken, so had some problems with oversized head. An extremely well balanced imperial stout; all the usual tastes: sweet, bitter, roasty, coffee, chocolate, smooth, all completely evenly balanced. Good stuff.
