500mL bottle purchased about 4 months ago at Jovi in Gatineau for $4. Pours black with a nice velvety creamy brown head. Nice roasted malt aroma. Flavour is initially roasty and toasty, perhaps a bit spicy (or perhaps I shouldn’t have eaten that pepperoni stick before reviewing a beer). There’s a nice tang to the flavour, but when cold, it drops out after that and the aftertaste is a bit thin. Initially, it certainly doesn’t feel like a 9% beer. As it warms, the flavour starts out richer, almost a bit syrupy, and the alcohol seems more noticeable. Definitely let this one warm up. But still, not one of my favourite big stouts.

500mL bottle. Pours your typical beautious Imperial Stout viscous black with a medium sized brown head. Aroma is big on the chocomalt, some sweet lactate, perhaps some piney hops, and anise. Flavour is nice and roasty, less intense than I was expecting, plenty of body what with the lactose. Quite sweet and malty, a bit of ash but without the unpleasant tar and excessive anise I get sometimes from Imperial Stout’s. Quite nice, and thankfully the weather has calmed down enough that a 9% Imperial Stout isn’t totally out of the question. Really nice sweet aftertaste from the lactose, which also gives it very good drinkability for 9% abv. Top notch stuff. Gets an extra appearance point for the syrupy look of the remaining residue at the bottom of the bottle, which is something that to me just SCREAMS true Imperial Stout!

(Rating #1815)

Bottle... Thinkin’ ‘Bout Thirteen Hours O’ Drinkin’ (tew man wrecking crew)... This beer rocks!... Pours pitch black with a mid-sized, creamy, light brown head. Terrific retention. Chocolaty, coffee nose with clever vinous and dark fruit notes. Full-bodied and creamy with lively carbonation. Much better balance than expected. Slightly oxidized, but lots of roastiness and dark fruit. Perfect degree of lactose sweetness. Medium bitter, coffee and chocolate finish with only a restrained touch of cardboard-like oxidation. Big-time thanks go out to glouglouburp for providing this underappreciated gem!

Courtesy hopscotch. Pours black, with a foamy, pretty well retained light brown head. Alot of milk chocolate in the aroma, really nice though, not overwhelming at all. Got some good doses of dark fruit as well. The flavor was surprising because the expected sweetness was balanced out by a nice roasty character that wasnt picked up in the nose. Good dark fruit presence, along with some bananas lingered in the aftertaste. This was surprisingly very tasty.
