Sampled at the GCBF. Amber with spiderwebs. Aroma is rye and mild coniferous. Taste is rye (which plays its part in a beautiful viscosity), slight grapefruit sweetness and bitterness. Well balanced. Finish is a balance of pine and grapefruit. First good-quality IPA (which is what this is) I’ve had from Quebec.

Bouteille de 500ml. Dégustée le 15 février 2015. Bière rousse limpide. Très peu effervescente, pratiquement pas de bulles. Mousse assez, col moyen off-white persistant.

draught@Erzbierschof - light hazy amber-orange beer under a solid creamy beige foam; fair aroma of mango, rye and marzipan; velvety palate; light sweet and grainy; decently bitter; aftertaste of tea, watermelon and rye - nice and balanced beer

(Charlevoix Vache Folle RyePA) Bottle 500 ml at home, served into a pint, ABV 6% Deep red colour on the body, clear, with a big and thick white head, with very good retention. Aroma of rye, caramel, marmalade. Taste also of rye, grass, marmalade, grains, light toffee, with good and long lasting bitterness. Medium body with good carbonation, mildly dry palate. Nice.

Alengrin (4456) - BELGIUM - NOV 14, 2015
Canadian rye IPA from a 50 cl bottle. Thickly lacing, egg-white, dense, regular, completely closed and well retaining head over a lightly hazy coppery amber coloured beer. Complex and very fragrant aroma of candied orange (marmelade), biscuit, mandarin, peach, dried banana, rye bread, strawberry, chestnuts, dry hay, spring flowers, lime zest, caramel, toasted onion, sweetbread, ginger powder, dried red berries, bitter honey, chicken spices. Cleanly ’dried fruity’ onset, hints of figs, dried mango and hazelnuts, sweetish and sourish but both are well in balance with each other, medium to strongish carbo, bit minerally. Smooth malty middle phase, caramelly, very nutty with a gentle rye sourishness and spiciness as well as softly bittering toasted edge supporting the finishing hop character, spicy, deeply leafy and herbal, but aromatic as well, with elegant retronasal citrus peel, pine resin and dried flower qualities, drying the end phase and well in balance with the nutty malts. Very enjoyable beer, delicious in the nose and well-balanced in the mouth, tilted towards the malty side but still with a lot of delicate North American hop fragrance. Recommended for those who are into the maltier side of IPA.

500ml bottle from Marche Omni in Gatineau, Quebec. Orange-copper in colour with a large and long lasting off-white head, excellent lacing. The aroma is of cereal and pale malts, caramel, citrus hops, light rye. The flavour is of citrus hops, some caramel sweetness, some rye, earthy. Lightly bitter mouthfeel, medium body, medium carbonation. Finishes long, bitter, citrusy, sweet. Nice beer, still more of an IPA because not a whole lot of rye comes through in this. Still quite refreshing though.

Poured a huge frothy head, with a medium amber appearance. A hoppy aroma, piney/grainy as well. Nice creamy mouthfeel. Good lacing. Clear citrus flavours, maple, hops are quite distinct. A bit of spices come through, peppery. I find the hops well balanced, not overly strong but just fine. Very tasty and smooth. Very good!
