3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 rodenbach99 (2510) - Longueuil, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 12, 2011
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Lubiere (8247) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 15, 2009
An amber to brown ale with a thin moka head. No c-hops here, although the aroma is nice, caramelly, again very fruity. In mouth, almost like an abbey dubbel, with toffee malt, herbal notes, nice sustained bitterness, but more English veering on Belgian. Rich and smooth, with nice alcohol warmth in finale. On tap at Les Brasseurs du Temps, May 14 2009.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Boutip (3979) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 14, 2009
Draft: Poured a clear deep burgundy color ale with a large foamy head. Aroma of dry fruit with some light sweet ester and some floral hops that are more subtle then expected. Taste is not as hoppy as expected with some great caramel malt with nice notes of dry fruits that are very reminiscent of an Abbey Dubbel. No alcohol was discernable with great carbonation. Very well done event though not close to what I was expecting.

Sample and more. More copper than amber. Lasting head. Light fruit aroma. Sweet sugary flavour. Alcohol, dark fruit and hops.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 elihapa (1487) - Honolulu, Hawaii, USA - MAR 14, 2009
On tap, Vices et Versa. Aroma is faint and soapy. Flavor is also extremely soapy, with a touch of strawberry fruit. There is just a strange plasticky component to the flavor that just doesn’t help the soap qualities already present. I drank this one colder (right after the pour) and warmer (after letting it sit for 15 minutes) and the result was the same. Unless this was just a bad tap, Charlevoix has missed on this one.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 MartinT (6934) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 9, 2009
My Bottom Line:
Like most Charlevoix Double IPAs to date, this one nourishes with its maple-like caramel sweetness, developing a body worthy of Barley Wines that easily supports the expressive peppery and earthy hop presence.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam skirts the hazy amber.
-Balance is reached even though this is quite intense on both sides of the scale.
-A light bubblegum presence is perceived in the aroma.
-The dextrins in the finish are able to make the potent bitterness seem restrained.
On tap at the Saint-Pub.
