I donít think this is made in England anymore, but Molson has made it in Ontario since the í60s. My grandfather used to drink this before he discovered Sam Adams. Copper-amber colour. Slightly papery, plasticy tasting. Then comes the caramel - quite a bit of it, and a slight mineral note. It isnít English by a long shot, but for Molson itís a good beer. For Molson.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Thick nice presenting head, light brown in color. Tea, light bitterness, soft palate, hint of roasted malt. This is not one of the cleaner beers I had

1.2 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20
Often hidden amongst other beer taps at a bar so that they look like they provide variety. I donít think pub owners ever even hook up the tap. If bars ever took Monopoly $$$ Iíd still be hesitant on ordering another

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Sweet malt aroma, copper, with a medium vanilla head. Mild malt flavour, small bitterness, fairly liveless in the mouth. Regular stuff, I wonder if it was better when it was from the U.K.? By the way, to answer Cartoon_khaki's question, Toby is the name given to the mug, in which one drank their beer, featured on the label.

At one time I drank this by the gallon on the half baked idea that this was approaching an authentic English ale. This was helped by the brewerís generous amount of caramel and a stuffing that was virtually free of substance apart from a ripping acidity.

Itís a strange beer. Your first sip tells you you donít want another. But you can force yorself through it. Itís what you get if you would mix a mild cider with a bitter or EPA.
