UPDATED: OCT 29, 2011 On tap @ Valhalla w Erica and Brandon. Dark red pour with a black tint. Very bitter and hoppy with a little breadiness. I don’t really notice the malt profile but it’s somehow still balanced. Good beer from a brewery I’ve never heard of. Will have to return to Valhalla while they still have some others on tap.

Growler filled at the brewery and consumed the next day. Pours a hazy amber brown with a moderate tan head. Pleasant aroma of malt and grapefruit. The flavor is malt, resinous pine, grapefruit and just a bit of brown sugar. Just about full bodied with a nice chewy mouthfeel. Very enjoyable!

Draught, served as a specialty imperial IPA at the New World Bistro in Albany, NY. Pours clear dark orange and reddish, with a small tan-colored head. The aroma is sweet pineapple, orange flesh, and some woody notes, with perhaps some spices present. The flavor is sweet initially, with fruity orange and pineapple and papaya trending toward bitter citrus hops; grapefruit and orangepeel are present. Mildly warming, with medium carbonation and body. This is really pretty enjoyable, a well-done and drinkable beer. [774]

A - Pours a dark cloudy amber-red color with a finger of off-white frothy head. The head fades down to a ring around the glass leaving behind some lacing on the glass. S - Aroma has a nice blend of caramel malts and piney hops in the background. The aroma gets a bit more potent and rich as the beer warms a bit with more hops coming through. T - Starts off with a lot of rich roasted sweet caramel malt flavor and some grassy hops in the background. Through the middle the hop flavors gets a lot stronger with some nice bitterness and some fruity flavor. The finish is a mix of some hop flavor alongside the malts, some fruit, and just a hint of alcohol flavor which lingers nicely. M - Medium bodied with moderate lively carbonation. Feels fairly smooth and just a touch syrupy. Finish is really nice and a bit dry with a bit of alcohol warming. D - Very drinkable. Flavors are not perfectly balanced, but there is a nice mix and a bit different then a normal DIPA, maybe more of a Strong Ale. Really enjoyable though.

Now this is an IPA they really did a great job on this super IPA in terms of hops and flavor blows the regular IPA from this brewery out of the water

Got this out of a growler at the Chatham Brewing Company on 6/26/2010. Aroma is sugary malts with some toffee and caramel. Hint of butterscotch and sour apple, but appropriate here. More bready than the taste (to come), and less hoppy. The appearance is murky copper-orange. Dark except for in the light. Not a lot of head, but some decent lace. The flavor is pine oil hops with a hint of tangerine and a bitter grapefruit finish. Hops are bittersweet and pungent. The malts are sandwiched between the twin hops, but add a toasted, bready backbone. Rye bread, blood oranges and coriander. Feels milky, smooth and buttery. It’s a good, good double IPA. Very balanced, really rich and filled with lots of hops. Go to Chatham Brewing, buy a growler and support the team.
