3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bomber from Woodmans in the Falls as Chatoe Rogue Dirtour Black Lager, cellar aged about a year. Pours a very dark brown with a tan spongey head leaving strings of lace. Aroma has dark chocolate, cocoa and malti, with faint grape. Taste is of bakers chocolate, cocoa powder, some coffee with a lot of roasted malts. Medium to full bodied and quite dry. Finishes more bitter than bittersweet, with the dark choco/coffee carrying the day over the cocoa powder. A bit more promising in the aroma than the carry into the taste, but a solid schwarzbier. Just had potential for more. Aging killing it a bit, perhaps??

Location/Date:Bottle split with Jay on 8/10/2013 at the River House.
Appearance: Pours black with light brown head.
Aroma: Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, chocolate.
Taste: Super roasty, light coffee, chocolate.
Palate:Light medium body, slightly slick.
Summary: A schwarzbier with a super amount of flavor, I enjoyed it but thought maybe it was slightly too roasty for the style.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Exceptional beer. Beautiful appearance: pitch black with a beautiful light brown head. A smooth roastiness in the aroma, complex for such a light beer. The hops create a gentle bitterness which lingers for quite a while. Unfortunately it’s nearly impossible to attain beers like this one nearby (got this one from someone who visited Oregon), beautiful beer!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours like it should be treacle, the thick brown head soon fades away, and what you’re left with is nothing at all like a Lager is expected to be. It’s light but full bodies and finishes dry. The cocoa/coffee makes this a nice drinkable beer, but I found an underlying sour note that didn’t upset me, I just noticed it was there. This is a bit good, and I’ll be buying more.
