Black pour with a nice creamy tan head. Aroma is full of roasted malt and coffee. Some bits if bitter chocolate too. Flavor is loaded with coffee and bitter chocolate. This is really well done.

Bomber from Whole Foods in DC. Pours a rich deep black with a light brown head, looks like an imperial stout. Nose is roasty and full of a coffee vibe. Taste is sweet, roasty and coffeetastic. Hops are pretty present, overall this is a damn good Schwarz.

UPDATED: APR 17, 2010 I certainly didn’t expect this one to taste like a stout, but it does. Aroma is roasted with a faint hint of lager yeast. Flavor is very similar...decent roasted character with only a little lager finish. Not much in the way of hop flavor but there is some lingering hop bitterness. Although a lot of what Rogue brews is over-priced, I like this one and the fact that they are using their own hops/barley.

I really like this. An impenetrable black oily liquid with a thick cappacino head. Aromas of fresh-tilled soil, charcoal and bittersweet chocolate. Char picked up more intensely on tasting. Sweetness well balanced by light but longlasting bitterness. Very creamy, luxuriant mouthfeel. Residual sugars left my lips sticky but brew does not come across as sweet. Excellent beer.

22oz bottle This is a nice looking pour: jet black with a long lasting frothy tan head. Very nice roasty/chocolatey aroma followed by a medium bodied, roasty malty flavored beer. Very well done.

Bottle shared by superdave -- thanks! Pours a charcoal black color with a trim beige head. Smells of toasted malt, barley, dry hops, and faint coffee. Tastes of each, but with a unwashed earthy (dirtoir indeed) quality that really didn’t sit right with me. Not a fan.

(Rating #2934)

Did not expect it to look like this, I expected a lager to be clear and light in color. Deep dark black with thick tan head. Aroma of sweet chocolate, coffee, and a little sweet bread. Very crisp flavor, earthy and carbon, light coffee, chocolate. Medium carbonation. Just a bit of grassy hop bitterness and then some carbon in the finish. Nice, a little too light.

Bottle. Pours an opaque black with a dense dark brown head. This looks imperial, even though I know it isn’t. Aromas of charred malt, dusty chocolate, and coffee. Flavourful burnt malt, coffee and dark chocolate, bitter roasty finish. This really satisfies without clobbering you with high ABV.

[A] Almost smells like a stout, for being listed as a shwarz. With coffee, chocolate, roast. Smoke comes through very light. Burnt. Back to back with Point 2012. Lager yeast somewhat buried. [A] Very oily, thick, impressive looking black pour. Beautiful frothy brown head. Stout-like in this department. Appealing. [F] Chocolatey. Rosy. Roasty. Some meaty, fiery, hammy smokiness. Char. Bitter. Alot moreso than the 2012. Earthy. Flavorful. [P] Extremely drinkable. Thin. Nice tingle. Everything comes together well. The hop varieties don’t really loan any citrus or extreme bitter. [O] Very very nice beer. Liked this one. Not the most complex brew I’ve ever had, but quite excellent. $4 is a steal for this. Just. Totally impressed. Rogue does a good brew, but I don’t often repeat. Will have to buy another few while they’re available. Especially with estate-grown ingredients. Homegrown. Yum.
