Bottle. Pours an almost black color with a small light brown head. Lots of smokiness in the nose that really blow you away. Can really taste the roasting in it. Great beer.

Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks beerandbeyond. Black-colored with a thick light brown head. Aroma of chocolate, a bit of coffee, some smokiness, herbal notes and a light vegetal note. Smoky and roasty flavor with some coffee, a bit of cocoa and a bit of chocolate. Medium to full-bodied.

On tap at the bocktown. Big and black, very nice pour with a choco moose head. Mild chocolate aroma. Rather flat from the start. Much stronger than I thot. More like a hopped stout er somethin. I don’t like hops in my black loager, werw. Not impressed. Roasty background makes it interesting but sure does need somemanners.

Mine might’ve been a bit faulty- frothed for ages and felt over carbonated. The colour blew me away though- Black as black with dark brown foam. Aromas of roasted malt, dark choc and coffee with some fruity hops coming thru. Taste is that again with long, dry finish. Pretty damn good. Want another one!

On tap at Cookie. Very tasty. Aromas of roast, coffee, and liquorice. Taste is sweet and bitter, with long length. Palate is velvety, and medium bodied. Black, with a frothy head.

Appearance: Black with thick dark head Aroma: Roasted malt with coffee and hazelnut Flavor: Wow, an unexpected level of complexity. It’s got a peaty, smokey layer on the front end with chewy tobacco notes. Finishes with a pleasant coffee layer Overall: One of the more memorable and unique Schwatzbiers

Bottle, pours black with a medium dark brown head, fades quickly to a light film. Aroma is big roast and cocoa. Flavor is much the same, big roast, black strap molasses and burnt sugars. Semi sweet cocoa finishes with a little smoke. Really nice stuff with just the right amount of carbonation.

Draft at Jerry’s. Black with good, foamy, brown head / Rich, toasty nose of roast barley, tobacco, coffee, / Light to medium body, soft carbonation, a touch thin but good balance and bitter finish / Flavors of burnt coffee, toffee, malt, smoke, biscuit, prune / Could use a little more zip to the body, but still a fine brew.
