4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 ml bottle into snifter, 2014 bottling. Pours fairly hazy golden orange color with a 1 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, apricot, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel/rind, pine, floral, grass, caramel, toffee, honey, biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great complexity and balance of big citrus/tropical hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, apricot, pineapple, lemon zest, orange peel/rind, pine, floral, grass, caramel, toffee, honey, biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, apricot, pineapple, lemon zest, orange rind, pine, caramel, toffee, honey, biscuit, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity and balance of big citrus/tropical hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; with a good malt/bitterness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a smooth, fairly creamy/slick, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a small warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent blonde barleywine style. All around great complexity and balance of big citrus/tropical hops and moderate dark/bready malt sweetness; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
"Had this side by side w the old version. This one is lighter and slicker, hoppier, more floral and fruity, but also a tad bit less complex. For lovers of IIPAs and hop forward barleywines like Bigfoot, this is a winner."

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared by oRos. Pours cloudy blonde with a transient off-white head and a fruity aroma. There is an uncarbonated light fruit flavor with a dry finish and a warm alcohol trail Certainly not a typical barleywine in that the mouthfeel is not thick and the flavor lacks sweetness. Still a pretty good beer.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: AUG 26, 2014 Served on tap in a snifter
Appearance – The beer is served a clear deep orange-amber color with a tiny head of white foam. The head fades very fast leaving a light level of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is biggest a sweet smell with tons of caramel and toffee as well as some big fruity aromas of tangerine, orange, and apricot, Along with these are some lighter hoppy aromas of a grapefruit and grassy smell as well as a bit of a boozy aroma of a rum like nature.
Taste – The taste begins with a very bready and doughty taste with lots of caramel and toffee sweetness. Along with these flavors are a little bit of a citrus sweetness as well as a moderate showing of a grapefruit hop flavor. As the taste advances the grapefruit grows stronger in nature and is joined by some grassy and herbal hop taste. The herbal hops and grassy flavors actually out pace the grapefruit more toward the end all while a bit of a boozy flavor joins the profile. The sweet flavors all the while remain relatively constant, and in the end with the mix of tastes that is left it ends up leaving a somewhat warmingly sweet and moderately hopped flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker and chewier side with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. For the sweeter and more malty flavors of the brew mixed with the moderate hop and yeast the feel is rather nice and creates a nice slower sipper.
Overall – An alright Barleywine overall. It has a decent hop blend but also maintains a good level of sweet, malt, and booze. Not a bad try, but nothing all that exceptional as Barleywines go.
