Draught sample at Portland Pub. My main note is "mild at best". Just seemed a little flat on the hop flavours; not just the bitterness but also the citrus and/or pine qualities that really give it character. Pleasant enough just nothing top tier.

UPDATED: JAN 18, 2010 Not the extreme hop experience I was expecting, but a very balanced pale ale nonetheless. Cloudy orange with an initially frothy head. Typical floral and citrus notes, modestly hoppy, and especially light and dry with a champagne-like effervescence. It’s tasty, but, in my opinion, more suited for an eight dollar six-pack than a five dollar bottle.

22 oz bottle pour has a thin foamy head that fades quickly but keeps foaming around the edges of a cloudy reddish golden body. Faint grapefruit aroma. Hop bitterness is mild, but does hang around on the tongue afterwards. More of a malt presence than I expected. A decent enough ale, but like others, I expected more of a bite.

Hazy copper, thick head with stuck bubbles reminds me of pancake batter. Metallic aroma. Cedar and orange peel, piney hop finish, but I agree with Diabolik. Not an IPA. It even says 40 IBUs on the bottle and never calls itself imperial. As a pale it’s very good. But I expect a fresh juicy burst in wet hopped beers and this is too malt-forward and weighed down on the back end. Hops are more muted with each sip and my disappointment with this years wet hopped offerings grows.

Poured from Bottle into Imperial Pint glass.
Pours a clear orange-copper color with a couple fingers of off-white head that leaves a heavy layer atop the glass. The aroma is grapefruit, caramel malt and some alcohol. The flavor is grapefruit hoppiness upfront and quickly develops into a strong malt flavor and finishes sweet and slightly dry. Its medium bodied and softly carbonated. This beer needs more hops in the nose and a more consistent hop flavor especially since its fresh hopped. I’m more looking for hop bombs from Fresh Hop ales and this just wasn’t that. This beer should certainly be considered an American Pale.

22 oz, 5.50 at the beer store in Corvallis. Not near as hoppy as i wanted, more of just a ale not near enough hops, its no hop trip

Free taster from the Rogue Pub at Newport. Pours a clear honey yellow with no head. Aromas fo brown sugar and some citrus. Tastes more of the same with some spicy hops and a bitter finish.
