Pint, random pub in Somerset. Grassy-floral hoppage, toffee malt, sickly sweet caramel malt, very boring bland best bitter type, creamy white head, low-flat carbonation, creamy and oily. Dry finish. Just very dull and boring.

Cask conditioned at The Woolpack, Banbury. Brown to amber beer with white head. Rich malty fruity bitter with a dry hop, dusty note. A little heavy flavourwise for a session bitter, but easily drinkable all the same. Fruity background with notes of apricot. Overall a reasonably set up bitter.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 desdemoor (14) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - AUG 29, 2008
Bottle conditioned version, review bottle from brewer, labelled "Gorge Best" (dreadful pun for those who know about 1970s UK soccer players who ended up alcoholic celebrity casualties) with ABV quoted at 4.2%, perhaps boosted for bottle. An amber beer with a thick head tinged yellowy-pink and a creamy, spicy aroma wtih twiggy earthy notes. A richly malty palate has orange crystal tones and a spicy hop layer from the start, turning lightly peppery with a fennel hint and yeasty banana/vanilla esters. There’s some pear and strawberry in a drying finsh that gets quite tongue puckering but overall this is a cheerful and fruity beer, if nothing special.
