UPDATED: APR 1, 2014 Cask: Super dark, black hole body with a thin, mocha film on top. Aroma is deep cocoa nibs with light milky sweetness, a hint of roast, and a very very mild apple skin fruitiness. Smooth, creamy body thanks to cask, although a little thin for a stout. Taste is mild cocoa, good chocolate bar, milky sweetness, a little roasted malt and just the slightest twinge of smokey wood. Also a mild, mild dark fruit back end sweetness. Pretty tasty.

Draft at the Chelsea Brewery in NYC. American pint glass. Pours jet black with think white head. Aroma mostly coffee, roasted malts and dark fruits. Taste was not as complex as the aroma. Slightly watery. But I did like the roasted malts and bitter coffee flavors.

Easily the best beer Nick and tried during our visit in 2013. Heavy roasted aroma and flavor. More coffee than dark chocolate. Decent amount of alcohol, some of which comes through.

On tap in Denver for GABF 2012. Pours a pure black color with a medium tan head. A big sweet nutty and roasted malt nose. The flavor was dominated by chalk, some roast, caramel, clear buttery flavors (I assume there is an issue with infection), light cocoa. Pretty good. Will rate again if I have a chance.

Draught at the Chelsea Brewpub, New York, NY. 7.8%. Pitch black colour with small tan head. Roasted malt, ash, liquorice, some sweetness and mild hops in aroma. Flavour is roasted malt, liquorice, malty sweetness, mild hoppy bitterness and mild sahti flavours too. Absolutely delicious. Balanced. Rich. More of this please. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On a nitro tap at Pony Bar. Pours a deep black with a large creamy tan head. Soft roast on the nose. Creamy and smooth, roast and chocolate. Sweet, chocolate and coffee. Roast. Creamy, smooth and very lovely. Gentle smoothness into big roast and chocolate.

On tap at Pony Bar. Beautiful black with creamy tan head. Roasty with slight earthiness: a mix of dirt and pine hops. The body is a bit odd: creamy but somewhat devoid of flavor. Mild but enjoyable.
