(Cask at Mug’s) Black body with a large tan head that has to one of the longest lasting head I’ve ever seen (if not THE longest lasting). Getting good head and from XXX beer… I think the brewer is a pervert. Roasted malt and some chocolate on the nose. Taste is of course full of roasted malt but also surprisingly vinous/fruity (figs, raisins). I was surprised to see the 7.3% on ratebeer as the alcohol presence was on par with my favourite 5% stouts (St-Ambroise, etc.). Classic stout, not very sweet and a bit fruity, very well balanced and very easy to drink.

Any first impressions?
-The wealthiest foam sticks to the opaque blackness until the very bottom of the pint glass, lacing generously.
-Vinous fruitiness undermines the roasted malts and their chocolatey counterparts; a mild union, but a fine one.
-That announced chocolatey roast is delivered, lightened by black grapes for drinkability.
-The velvety mouthfeel is nurtured by smooth carbonation and silky maltiness.

What if you dig deeper?
-The fruitiness expands to a blueberry kingdom.
-The flavor profile is simple, but oh so effective.
-Alcohol is nowhere to be tasted and felt. This would be a very dangerous session stout.
-Authentic, flawless straightforwardness makes for a succulent evening.

On cask at Mug’s Ale House, Brooklyn.

On tap at Barcade’s 2nd Anniversery party. Black pour with light brown head. Burnt coffee aroma, as well as flavor. Oily body & flavor of roastyness, burnt coffee, fried dumplings. The body is decent and creamy. However nothing stands out.

Draft @ brewpub. Oily black with a small, tan head. Aroma is nice and hoppy with flavors of charcoal, chocolate and some peach as it warms.

This is a great overall stout. Pours very dark, nice brown head and great lace. Aroma has lots of roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, and a bit of hops. Flavor is full of roasted barley and some chocolate malt with just a hint of a dry acidity from some black malt. Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy with a full body. Very well made.

Just had this with a bratwurst lunch at the brew pub. Outstanding! I turned a buddy onto it and now he’s looking to purchase a growler. Fine appearance, great palate and a nice kick considering its rated at 7.6% alcohol. This has a great finish and leaves you wanting another. Too bad we had to get back to work.

GABF 2005: Deep brown with reddish highlights, very good creamy head. The nose displayed espresso and milk chocolate, grassy and floral hops and a touch of apple acidity. The taste was more bittersweet mocha with a dry malty finish and some oats and grains. The feel is smooth and creamy, nice. Just like wnway states below, I too wrote down solid stout.

Poured black with a thick brown head. I thought this was an Impy Stout based on the aroma and taste. Smell had chocolate, coffee, espresso and caramel. Taste was milk chocolaty which I liked. Mouthfeel was a bit watered down. Solid Stout.

On tap at the Brew Pub. Waiter told me this was the Porter Authority but all the boards at the bar has it listed as the Blackhole Stout. Poured a dar black with an averaged sized tan head. Aromas and tastes of chocolate and roasted malts. Tastes had a lactose quality to it with stronger chocolate. Medium sweet with a light bitterness.

Tap. Black body, thick brown head. Big roast / chocolate imperial stout aroma with tart taffy / orange notes. Chocolate-sweet flavor with coffee and beaten-down green hops. Dry coffee finish. A very well-crafted but indistinguished stout.
