3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Capa (1633) - Philadelphia, USA - FEB 15, 2009
had this on my trip through NYC last year and just found the napkin I wrote it one. Dark with a wispy head. Light sour, roasted malts, chocolate, cocoa (there did seem to be both), with some molasses. Flavor is similar with nice bittersweet chocolate. Lightly dry and sour finish. Thin bodided. Refreshing on this warm evening.
(Cask at Blind Tiger)
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 Rastacouere (5920) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - SEP 29, 2008
Surprisingly timid and simplistic porter from a brewery that has not won me yet. Appealing fruity nose soon evolves into recurrent jamminess which quickly bores. The timid roastiness does not help, making the fruitiness dominating and accentuating its tartness. Still, it’s so light on the palate that you can’t accuse it of being astringent. That does not make it a winner though.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 sheatripper (863) - Brooklyn, New York, USA - SEP 7, 2008
Nitro at Brazen Head. Chocolate and coffee flavors with a minerally lining. Full bodied, even and smooth, retaining the robust and roasty flavors of the style without any acidic distractions or off-notes. Nicely brewed porter.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Glouglouburp (4781) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 28, 2008
In short: Good sweet fruity malt backbone and a strong hop bite. Solid.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Black body with a very small beige head
In long: On one side medium roastiness, some burnt raisins, a little molasses and an overall crusty baked dessert sweetness. On the other side a big bite of fresh green hops, a little lemony flavour and a light tartness. Well balanced. Solid brew. You need to respect the porter of authority.

Cask at Blind Tiger. Aroma of roast, coffee, smoke. Flavor of roast, coffee, sweet notes, and a hint of dried dark fruits. Dry for a porter. On the watery side. Ok.

On cask at Blind Tiger. Pours black with no real head. Aroma of roasted malt, chocolate. Flavor of light fruitiness initially, followed by roasted malt and bitter chocolate. Palate is weak and watery. It was an ok beer but nothing I’d seek out again.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 DougShoemaker (3149) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - APR 3, 2008
Nose reveals dark chocolate, coffee and roasted malt, ebony, with a trace of auburn at the sides, small tan head, nice lace also. Flavour is a rich chocolate/malt mix, coffee comes to mind too. Medium bodied, well balanced, quite fine bitterness here. Very good example. Midnight in Chelsea....
