[bottle at BJCP exam, Ottawa, May, 2012] Rich toasty aroma with hazelnuts, coffee, and detectable fruitiness.Complex. Clear, but nearly opaque ruddy dark brown under an eternal, tan foam. Complex flavour with roasted barley vanilla and bitter chocolate behind a rich, toasty nuttiness and molasses. Full body, moderate carbonation, sweet finish that does dry up a bit at the end.

On tap at the burger bar. Right off the bat i found this quite bitter for a porter. Big roasted, burnt malts, light cocoa, and a big bitter bite. Yes i would agree this is robust a little low on the carb, but the palate didnt suffer.

UPDATED: APR 8, 2012 Smells like earthy hickory smoke that expands a lot on the first exhalation. There’s some coffee on the taste and earthy bitterness. Pours dark with mocha foam, high carbonation. A medium heavy body. Great beer, exceeded expectations. On tap at the Burger Bar.

I tried this beer on tap on February 23, 2012 at "C’est What" in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The beer poured a dark brown colour with a creamy tan coloured head. Aroma was roasted malt, coffee, vanilla, and some smoked wood. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with mild carbonation. Flavour is smoky with coffee, chocolate and caramel hints. A pretty good beer!

Deep brown-black pour. The head is thick and quite moussey. A lovely bitter chocolate character overlying a rich, thick body. A bit of light caramel and sweetness through the midle. Fudgey, sticky body. Excellent balance with a lovely soft roast finish. It comes across more like a stout to me, but I really like it.

Very dark pour with a redish tan head. Smokey malty scent. Maltey taste, coffee, tartness. Lots of tartness and bitterness. Very little sweetness. A rather nice porter but not one of my faves.

On tap at Gambrinus Bistro and Cafe. Deep opaque brown letting only small amounts of light in, creating a ruby hue. Nose of roasted malts, milk chocolate, some black coffee, floral hops. Very bitter, roasty with a milk chocolate profile that is really incredible. Hoppy, floral, with lingering bitter finish and roasty finish. Medium bodied, creamy, excellent.

On tap the the Rhino - came a intensely dark brown with a generous two-finger mocha head. Aroma very chocolatey, some coffee, but more on the nutty/roasty nutella side than bitter espresso. Flavour is milk chocolate, red wine, black licorice, coffee. Not much in the way of aftertaste, but a smooth, chocolatey lingering. Very good beer.
