COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Saison is a classic Belgian style, not often seen outside of its homeland. It was traditionally brewed by farmers and their workers as a beverage to consume during the summer months. Bridge Road Brewers have crafted their own Saison to add to their Chevalier range. This beer is quite unique, light straw in colour, with a tight bright white head. Aromas are dominated by esters and phenolic characters, owing to the Saison yeast strain, which also gives the beer its characteristic tart, dry and acidic profile. This citrus character combined with grassy hop flavours make this a great food beer, try it with anything from seafood to blue cheese.

750ml heavy glassed bottle. Cloudy orange pour with a medium white head that laces scantily. Nose of bread, yeasts, oranges, peppers and grassy hops. Flavour is fine Belgian Saison with a smooth easy drinkability. It is thinner bodied than Saison Dupont. A commendable Aussie attempt at this difficult style.

UPDATED: JAN 7, 2010 This has all the hallmarks of a classic saison but is let down by some strange astringently bitter aromas and flavours that distract from the experience. Could be a slightly old bottle, but didn’t fully appreciate this one as i was hoping to.

After the awfulness of the Chevalier Biere de Garde I wasn’t expecting much at all from their Saison.
I was happily surprised! A hazy golden beer with a bubble white head, this Saison throws a crisp, hoppy aroma. Very much to style.
The beer itself is very refreshing, one of the most refreshing higher gravity beers I’ve ever had. Crisp, but with a good caramelly body, a little bitterness lingers which serves to entice another gulp.
This is Saison.

Pours pale gold with loads of fine bubbles sustaining (building) an impressive white head. Yeasty aroma, quite bready, but also showing lots of spicy phenols and tart orange peel. Flavours are very similar: bready yeast, lots of citrus as well as cloves. Alcohol is soft and clean, but the mild bitterness is quite sharp. High carbonation emphasises the dry finish, while the light body makes for a very refreshing beer. A great attempt at the style.

Tap. Interesting, but too acidic for me. Aroma is dominated by fruits, particularly apple. Flavour is sweet and acidic. It has high carbonation, and an oily texture. Dark yellow in colour, the thin head disappears quickly.

Draught at the Local Taphouse, Melbourne. Pours cloudy orange with a medium white head. Great spicy/earthy aroma, citrus, lemon zest and yeast. The flavour mirrors the spiciness on the nose, citrus, banana bread and orange. Light and airy body, doughy malt and spicy finish. A great saison this is more like it.

An excellent example of the style. Spicey, yeasty, grassy nose with a suitably dry and tart mouthfeel. Loooked fantastic in a big tulip glass all nice and hazy with a huge rocky head. Truly wonderful.

750 ml. Quality nose...sweet grass and some funky earth with a really nice yeasty background. Taste is just fantastic, tart and funky, nice crisp hop character and a really clean dry finish. I immediately wanted more. Really solid effort.

Draught. Lots on the nose - yeasty, berries, stewed plums. Musty yeast on the palate, with citrus. Then cherry tartness in the finish.
