3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 MartinT (6350) - Montreal, - OCT 19, 2008
My Bottom Line:
Resinous hops readily bloom onto the chocolate and caramel maltiness of this levelled Double IPA, an inspiring landscape which rolls away into the sustained bitterness of verdant greenery and its fresh earth.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam decorates the dark orange-red.
-The soft tingling of carbonation is perfect for the suave body.
-The hoppiness is redolent of Cascade and Simcoe varieties.
-The flavor profile is balanced in its intensity.
-Strawberries seem to grow from the caramel malt base and the chosen yeast.
On tap at Broadway Pub, Shawinigan.

Cloudy amber pour with a thin offwhite head. Nice aroma of citrusy, resinous hops. Good flavor of citrusy, resinous hops with a bitter finish. The body is light to medium and slightly liquorous while the carbonation is moderate. Nicely done.

Very dark copper, hazy. A lacy off-white ring does not show much endurance over the liquid. Coniferous, piney pungent hops are the first noticeable aspects as you plunge your nose into the glass. The first sip therefore surprises with its important toasty maltiness that serves as the foundation. Lightly bready as well, but really focused on toast malt flavours. The hop importance grows and grows by the sip, reaching out towards earthiness and saltiness in the hoppy finale. Certainly not refreshing, but a pleasant hop discourse.

(Rating #2013)
