COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Chicago Brewing Company's Belgian Dubbel has become a permanent addition to the line up of summertime specials. Belgian beers are a fairly new and diverse breed of beers to have been introduced to the U.S. market only within the past 50 years or so. We feel that our dubbel is a fine example of this particular style. The rich amber color is created using a blend of pale, munich, crystal, and chocolate malts which are responsible for the caramel and raison-like flavors. The selected yeast strain comes from a Trappist brewery in Belgium. The yeast left in suspension is responsible for the beautiful fruity esters and spice filled aroma. Dubbels are lightly hopped so as not to mask the complexity and character of the contributing malt and yeast.

Sampled at the brewery. Murky dark brown with a tan head. Solid, thick body, huge smoked banana presence, a little cloves and chive/oregano-like spices. Very fresh and spicy, a little alcohol kick underneath. Well-made, though really resembling another New Belgium Abbey clone... hmmmm.

Dark brown chestnut beer, no head; Lactic character with lots of fruitiness and very estery. Flavourful, sweet and dark malts with perfumed and fruity notes. Slick MF, smooth and even voluptuous. Very good dubbel, even when style requirements would have it more bitter.

Tap @ Reno Festival. Cloudy brown color with a laced tan head. This was served very cold, but thankfully it didn't take long in the hot summer weather at the El Dorado beer festival to warm it up to the optimal temperature. Full body, raisins, spice, malts, citrus, coriander, sweet, and smooth.

On tap at the Four Queens location, with a clear, deep copper/amber color, light, off white head foam that quickly diminished to a ring and film, and left some light strands of lacing. The aroma was light fruit, plum, banana, and spices, as clove. The flavor was similar, with light malty sweetness and low but noticeable alcohol presence toward the finish. Decent.

A nice attempt at a belgian by this brewery, but still missing something found in great authentic belgian ales. Still worth a try if you’re in the neighborhood however, it still has a very good belgian-esque flavor though not as complex.

Red to dark amber color; creamy head. Good mouthfeel, soft Ale with sweet malt, fruity yeast. Not a dubbel, not complex but enjoyable.

Aroma is ok. There is almost no head, a bad sign. The flavor has all the spices you’d expect right up front, but it finishes off flat, like I was worrying about from the head. Overall, has the makings of a good dubbel, but could use some work.
