Bottle from Belgian Beer Shop.com. Colour: first clear golden, at the end of the bottle hazy. The head is slightly off white, soapy, moderately stable with nice lacing. The aroma is pretty amazing and unique, filled with fruits (banana, pineapple, orange, mango) and floral notes. It’s sweet with licorice, spicy and the hops also are clearly present. This is one of the most complex smells I’ve ever experienced. The taste afterwards is a bit of a dissappointment but nevertheless very good: yeasty, fresh, bitter sweet and fruity. It has got a medium dry aftertaste; the finish makes me think of champagne. Alcohol presence is detectable but not too overwhelming. Overal: this is a complex and unique beer that’s very different from the other Chimay beers.

Bottle sample. Clear light golden with small off-white head, with some sediments. Aroma of candy, champagne, yeasty, soapy with some fruitiness and spiciness. Very sweet flavor, soapy, some herbs, notes of honey, spicy, lavender, quite alcoholic. Lively carbonation, medium-bodied.

Bottle sample. Thanks rayaron. Cloudy yellow golden with a large frothy head. Aroma of sweet overripe fruits, coriander, spices, yeast. Moderate sweet, fruity, spices, herbs, light-medium bitterness, well balanced. Medium-bodied, lively carbonation and creamy mouthfeel. Decent.

Pours a straw colour with great lace. Taste of bananas, bread, citrus, and spice notes. Very highly carbonated, excellent beer, too bad it’s gone now.

750 mL special release anniversary bottle from Premier Gourmet in Buffalo, served in a branded chalice. Pours hazy orange-golden with a tall, fluffy off-white head that remains and laces well. The nose has big notes of clove, coriander, honey and banana, along with pale malts, Belgian yeast, grain and a touch of cardamom. The flavour is rich and quite sweet, with notes of honey, pale malts, candi sugar and apricot pairing nicely with spicy notes carried over from the aroma. Towards the end, it acquires a subtle pepperiness that leads into a nice spicy, malty finish. On the palate it is medium-full in body with a smooth, creamy texture and average carbonation. Overall, an exceptional Belgian strong ale that takes peppery-spicy notes reminiscent of a tripel and pairs them with the rich malty, fruity sweetness of a quadrupel. Quite a delicious combination! 2014-11-20

Bottle at home (75 cl). Pours a clear to light hazy golden yellow with a white head. Aroma is grassy floral, with hay, malts, yeast, some cardamon. Taste is sweet malty, fruity, spices, some yeast, floral, hay. Bit of a bitter aftertaste with warming alcohol. Nice, but not really my style.

Bottle, shared with Parksy, Grippitis, JJ. Cloudy yellow with a creamy white head that laces thickly. Lovely floral aroma. Flavours center around sweet, bready pale malts, more floral than spicy, incredibly drinkable for 10%!
