Special edition from Chimay. Well worth the effort! Nicely crafted. Picked from an outlet in Belgium.. Nice tart aroma of hay and licorice. Taste of summer meadow with some alcohol dryness. This is a treasure!

Oh yes... I have been wanting to try this for a long time now. Trappist ales are my favourite bar none, and a special offering from a top-three brewery? I am poor as hell, but I needed to celebrate my finals. 750ml corked bottle, into a Trappist glass. Pours a lovely honey-gold colour with a slight but very noisy head. Fills the air with that wonderful scent that only Belgian ale can produce. Aroma is sweet, nice mingling of spices, very faint alcohol. Flavour comes out with sweet fruits, not at all overpowering, spices and Belgian yeast, a bit of heat from the alcohol on the close, medium finish. Excellent balance and much what I expect from Chimay. This is a beautiful Trappist ale to spend an evening with near a warm fire with a large book.

This is pretty darn tasty. Quite a bit of bubbly spiciness and a slightly sweet flavor. Pretty good, though steep in price.

The aroma reminds of a grapefruit soda, this a very strong beer. The taste is yeasty, dusty. And it works all the way. A truly classy beer. Drink with caution

750 ml bottle into signature chalice; 12993 cork code, 2012 bottling. Pours lightly cloudy golden amber color with a nice 1-2 finger dense and fluffy white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a small cap that lasts. Nice soapy lacing clings down the glass, with plenty of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Beautiful looking brew. Aromas of lemon, pear, apple, clove, pepper, coriander, cardamom, candi sugar, honey, light bubblegum, and earthy yeast spiciness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast esters with moderate malt balance; and moderate spices. Taste of lemon, pear, apple, clove, pepper, coriander, cardamom, honey, candi sugar, light bubblegum, floral, and earthy yeast spiciness. Lingering notes of light fruits, pepper, clove, coriander, honey, candi sugar, light bubblegum, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic balance and complexity of fruity/spicy esters with moderate spicing that isn’t overdone; with a moderate malt balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a moderately slick, crisp, and prickly mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is extremely well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic Tripel! Great balance and complexity of yeast ester flavors with moderate malt and spice balance; and very smooth to sip on for a 10% brew. A highly enjoyable offering.

75 cl bottle from Systembolaget, ordered by bottle from customer servicer in the store. BB 2015, sampled on September 22, 2012 Hazy yellow color, very big white head. Sweet, malty, phenoels, yeast, "Belgian malt" scent. smells wonderful, gave it a 9 first, but no, it has to be 10 in the end. Malty, phenoles, spices, alcohol taste. Sweet finish. Medium to smooth mouthfeel, low bitterness. Very very nice this one, think I might buy some more. Could come in a smaller bottle though.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 BigMomma (223) - Leuven, BELGIUM - AUG 2, 2012
Details: 75cl bottle
Tasting notes: Pours a cloudy orange color with a large creamy white head. The aroma is very smooth with lots of floral notes and some citrus. The flavor is sweet, malty, evolves into a soft citrus touch, floral, fruity, quite complex and ends in a gentle bitter finish. The body is full and the mouthfeel is very soft.
Conclusion: A superb beer with a very gentle yet complex flavor. Unfortunately it won’t be a mainstream beer.. .

750 bottle. Thanks Reg! This started with such a big frothy head, I could have balanced a dime on it. Continued to lace the side of my glass. Floral and spicey aromas with some coriander. Very full and soft palate. Flavors of spices and malt, clove, vanilla, bubblegum. A complex party of tastes. Would consider this to be more a Triple style. What a treat, hope to see more of this one.

Bottle: Poured a hazy deep blonde color ale with a super large off-white head with perfect retention and some good lacing. Aroma consists of fruity ester with some dry hoppy notes and some sweet Belgian style malt. Taste is a great mix between some dry hoppy notes with some really nice fruity ester with light apricot notes with some light residual candi sugar notes and a solid malt backbone. Body is full with great carbonation and light warming alcohol notes. Chimay is not my favourite Trappist brewery but this beer was well brewed and something I could envision having on a regular basis.
