Bottle conditioned - 150 cl, 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles. Named Grande Réserve in 75 cl bottles, and Magnum Grande Réserve in 150 cl bottles.
Chimay Blue is principally distinguished by its character of a strong beer. This is a beer whose fragrance of fresh yeast with a light, flowery rosy touch is especially pleasant. Its flavour, noticed when tasting it, only accentuates the pleasant sensations perceived in the aroma , while revealing a light but pleasant touch of roasted malt. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

Cloudy Dark Ruby Brown Color, Huge Foam Head That Does Not Last Too Long, Settles to A Small Lacing Ring. Sweet Fruity and Boozy Aroma. Malt, Fruit and Boozy Finish. Might Be Very Good At What It Is, Have Rich History but then again it is not for everyone. I personally don’t like booziness although it is part of this style. Drinkable. 330 ml bottle from the LCBO. Appearance: Pours a cloudy copperish brown with a good finger or so of light tan head. Aroma: Belgian yeast, malt, straw Flavours: Cloves and other baking spices, yeast, bit of hops, floral notes, hints of fruit such as apricots and prunes with some burnt sugar. Mouthfeel: Lots of carbonation. Overall: A very nice characteristic Trappist ale. You get that unmistakable Belgian yeast aroma right off the bat and those complex flavours with baking spices and fruits.

330cc bottle. Lovely trappist brown colour. I am a fan of the stile and this one lacks some sweetness and creaminess. Fantastic beer although. Better in the nose than in the mouth.

Niespodzianka tuż po otwarciu - gushing z butelki. Barwa brunatna, lekkie zmętnienie. Piana średnio pęcherzykowa, bardzo obfita. W aromacie mocna słodowość. Pierwszy łyk zdradza całą moc tego piwa - pełne w smaku, przyjemnie wyczuwalny alkohol. Piwem można się spokojnie "najeść".

Bottle at home (75 cl Grand Reserve 2010, lot: L010 998). Pours a light hazy red brown with a fast disappearing off-white head leaving a bit of lacing. Aroma of caramel, lightly roasted malts, a hint of yeast, and intense dark fruits. Taste is malty caramel, lightly roasted malts, lots of intense dark fruits, bit of warming alcohol in the end, aftertaste of dark fruits and warming alcohol. Very nice for the long winter evenings.

Bottle from Tesco. Pours dark brown with tan head, aroma of Belgian yeast, spices, chocolate and candied fruit. Flavours of chocolate, spices and Belgian yeast with good mouthfeel and a nice alcohol warmth. Lovely beer.

A sweet, malty aroma with a touch of honey. In the taste a perfect balance between the alcohol and the malty, yeasty aspect. it’s not as sweet in the mouth as in the nose, but with a nice bitter in the ending.
