Bottle conditioned - 150 cl, 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles. Named Grande Réserve in 75 cl bottles, and Magnum Grande Réserve in 150 cl bottles.
Chimay Blue is principally distinguished by its character of a strong beer. This is a beer whose fragrance of fresh yeast with a light, flowery rosy touch is especially pleasant. Its flavour, noticed when tasting it, only accentuates the pleasant sensations perceived in the aroma , while revealing a light but pleasant touch of roasted malt. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

The aroma is faint and slightly floral. There are other smells lingering beneath that I can’t identify. The appearance is dark brown and clear with a slight, consistent head. The taste is complex; there are so many different things going on. The palate is full bodied with a creamy texture and an almost perfect finish. Overall, this is one the greatest ales that I have ever had.

330ml bottle from local shop in Changchun. Reddish brown with a thin head. Bready, yeasty aroma. Right amount of carbonation. Too east to drink for 9%. Lovely.

Aroma is lacking. Perhaps it’s the glass. It’s being served in a glass more appropriate for a pilsner. Appearance is a nice dark brown, similar to some doppelbocks. Nice dark, albeit small head. Flavor is this beer’s strong suit. Nice dark fruit, Belgian yeast and spices. Very good beer. Drinks like a dubbel almost that’s very strong.

DATE REVIEWED: June 15, 2014... GLASSWARE: Chimay chalice... OCCASION: saluting the Spurs for knocking off LeBron--and celebrating father’s Day as well...APPEARANCE: ark chocolate purple body; one finger pale off-white head--creamy... AROMA: immediate floral yeasts pitch thee malts favorably; a wine/red grape insinuation--promising... PALATE: smooth, velvety dry as a pinot noir; soft aftertaste; warming but not overt--a body that is more than sippable, and one that demands immediate revisiting... TASTE: big yet palatable flavor, reminiscent of grape and dry wine tannins; malts are subdued, slightly toasted; well balanced... OVERALLL: a great nightcap to a great Father’s Day; 9% ABV never felt so good....

I’ve been looking forward to this one. Pours chocolaty brown with a creamy almond-colored two-finger foam that thickly coats the sides of the glass. The aroma of flowery dough leaps from the glass and is followed with a taste of the same and an addition of a musky fruitiness. The medium body coats the inside of my mouth with a lively carbonation and a lasting bitterness that only invites me to have another swallow. A delightful experience that should be shared. I almost feel as though I am doing this beer a disservice by drinking it without friends. I enjoy the yeast-iness of this as well as the light carbonation. The perfect balance of bitter and sweet keeps me reaching out for the glass.
