Bottle conditioned - 150 cl, 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles. Named Grande Réserve in 75 cl bottles, and Magnum Grande Réserve in 150 cl bottles.
Chimay Blue is principally distinguished by its character of a strong beer. This is a beer whose fragrance of fresh yeast with a light, flowery rosy touch is especially pleasant. Its flavour, noticed when tasting it, only accentuates the pleasant sensations perceived in the aroma , while revealing a light but pleasant touch of roasted malt. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

Bottle shared during Paul’s 30th. Many thanks to Daniek. Vintage 2011z pours unclear amber with some sediment and a creamy tan head. The aroma has some toffee, butterscotch, bread, slight candi sugar and Belgian yeast. Medium sweet flavor with lots of ripe, semi-dark fruits, bread, brown sugar, yeast, toffee. Medium to full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Warming finish with more ripe fruits, berries, toffee. Well rounded, nicely complex but still very drinkable. Deserving of its status as a classic.

Rocznik 2013. Kolor ciemnej, mocnej herbaty, klarowne. Piana obfita, szybko opada. W aromacie owoce, przyprawy, karmel, rodzynki, morele, lekki alkohol w stylu rumu. W odczuciu gladkie, oleiste, wysoko wysycone. W smaku karmelowe, przyprawowe, orzechowe, duzo mniej bogate i wyraziste niz w aromacie. Goryczka niska, polaczona ze sciagajacym alkoholem.

Casi negra y opaca. Espuma blanquecina muy abundante (4 dedos) con aspecto de espuma de gel de baño. Aroma a malta, caramelo y manzana. Sabor muy completo compensando dulces y amargos... para dejar un final en donde aparece claramente el alcohol, con cierto regusto metálico. No es la mejor de las Chimay.

33cl bottle BBE: 2019. Lightly chilled. Major froth-over when opened. Pours a cloudy mahogany body with many floaters, and a generous, creamy, tight fawn head. Medium intensity aromas of fresh bread, browned toast, plum, peach and apricot, rose, cocoa... Beautifully complex. Rich, syrupy sweetness (not overpowering), cut with a gentle bitterness. Wonderfully balanced. Full-bodied with a creamy texture, carbonation is a little below average and the finish is long and lingering. A magnificent beer, let down slightly by the frothing when opened (probably due to poor storage/handling). Could maybe stimulate the taste senses a little more, but I’m really trying to find fault where there isn’t any.
