Bottle conditioned - 150 cl, 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles. Named Grande Réserve in 75 cl bottles, and Magnum Grande Réserve in 150 cl bottles.
Chimay Blue is principally distinguished by its character of a strong beer. This is a beer whose fragrance of fresh yeast with a light, flowery rosy touch is especially pleasant. Its flavour, noticed when tasting it, only accentuates the pleasant sensations perceived in the aroma , while revealing a light but pleasant touch of roasted malt. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

Bij de fles open doen kwam er meteen een ontzettende schuimlaag uit. Hele mooie smaak.

Rich, complex beverage with a rounded fruity and floral character unlike any other. Good, solid body and a pleasant maltiness. No alcohol taste despite strength.

Den som lagrats i 8 år. Kryddiga russin i doften. Mörkt bröd och pepparkaka. Kryddig men tunn smak. Kroppen har försvunnit men smaken har utvecklats. Kanske borde bara lagrats i 5-6 år. Absolut prisvärd dock. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

23/10/14 - 750 ml bottles of 2006, 2009 and 2013 shared by Sam Vanderstraeten with Johan Brandt at ’s Smiske. 2013 : Nice thick brown color, good head. Roasty, caramel spicy smell same for taste. Full oily palate, lively carbonation. 2009 : less thick color, medium head, adds port to the taste. Nicest palate. 2006 : when opening definetly smell that it is over it’s date. No head. Taste port, bit spices. Clearly too far (in comparison with the oters) but still much better than a lot of other brown beers. Untill this tasting I had doubts whether I find this a great beer or a very good beer. Now I clearly know. I prefer the 2009 but learned to appreciate the fresh one more.

Excellente brune d’Abbaye.

Excellent beer...great color and aroma. Small hint of alchohol considering its 9% ABV. A bit pricey compared to my regular fare but worth it.

Heerlijk donker Belgisch biertje. 9%, zachte smaak. Pruimsmaak. Redelijke schuimkraag.

11.2 oz. bottle from Cash Wise in Williston. Appearance: 2 finger light brown head, good lacing, amber-red color, clear. Aroma: prune, notes of bread, light alcohol. Palate: medium body, alcohol thinness and light heat, oily texture, average carbonation. Taste: sweet fruity prune with touches of bready malt into moderate alcohol taste, with sweet fruity malt finish. Overall, amazing beer, great balance, awesome balance. Lovely and lives up to hype.
