COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned - 150 cl, 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles. Named Grande Réserve in 75 cl bottles, and Magnum Grande Réserve in 150 cl bottles.
Chimay Blue is principally distinguished by its character of a strong beer. This is a beer whose fragrance of fresh yeast with a light, flowery rosy touch is especially pleasant. Its flavour, noticed when tasting it, only accentuates the pleasant sensations perceived in the aroma , while revealing a light but pleasant touch of roasted malt. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

This ’grand cru’ of one of Belgium’s largest trappist breweries is quite deserving of it’s representative, blue label! This brew pours heavily effervescent and volatile. Letting off the typical aromas of a Belgian strong ale, this brew fits well into it’s genre. From the viewpoint of an American craft drinker, this genre has been defined by slightly less expensive brews like Delirium or St. Bernardus ales; both of which are incredible breweries however, fail to truly embrace the hoary muskiness that embodies trappist brews like Rochefort, Westy, and Chimay. Enjoy this one...It’s complex and delicious yet still leaves an hop-head like myself wanting. Next time you have some great friends over, share this brew in a trappist glass!

red fruit, roses in the nose, fresh fruity taste leads to a balanced bitterness in the dropachtige nasmaak.

Had this beer at the 4th Annual Casanova Beer Cave Festival. Nice sweet fruit/wine scent, boozy finish.

750ml bottle. Pours kind of a prune juice colour with a large off white head. Aroma is dark red fruits and musty yeast. Fruits, molasses, spices and yeast are well balanced in the taste, not too much booze comes through. Texture is quite thick. Overall, it is a bit of a rough ride for the lager drinker. A sipping beer for sure, but of excellent quality.

Pours a deep amber color with a foamy tan head and some lacing. The aroma has lots of yeast and spices with a bit of citrus. The flavor is light but complex, with spice, hops, lots of lightly roasted malt and a bit of yeast, along with a caramel-sweet aftertaste.

Deep dark brown poor with very slight off white head. Nice warm feeling after a few sip/gulps that warm the cheeks straingt away. The taste is mellow with slight kicks 2nd to the high Alc and light carbonation at the end of every sip. A sneaky enjoyable beer. Who wouldn’t want to be a monk in Belgium!
