pours a dark amber to brown color. the head sticks around for a while. The aroma is sweet, grassy, yeasty. The flavor is sweet, with a bit more bitterness that i would expect, along with yeast flavor, fruit, and grass. The palate is a heavier body with a alcohol warming feel doing down. overall this is pretty good.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 kaziopiwosz (42) - Warszawa, POLAND - APR 23, 2012
This was first belgian beer I rated - really big surprise. Excellent beer, strong and I had to be carefull of alcohol because I wanted to drink and drink and... Taste is really good, medium-bitter and balanced. Excellent foam, stays on top after couple of minutes. Dark colour. I’m sure I’ll buy it once again, every time I’ll see it.

Bottle 330 ml. Appearance: Dark amber, almost brown. Medium beige head and good lacing. Aroma: Spices, dark fruits, raisins, plum, bready aroma, sugar. Taste: Medium sweetness, spices and dark fruits. Warming alcohol. Medium duration of the aftertaste. Overall: Exactly what I look for in a belgian strong ale: great complexity, good balance, strong presence and good aging potential.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 BrotherJason (22) - Washington DC, USA - APR 22, 2012
Pours with an average sized head for the style, a little rocky. Medium brown with lots of red hue and medium bodied appearance. Aroma is sweet with yeast, a little fruity or flowery. Medium palate feel with a mild finish with heavy carbonation. Taste is malty with yeast and just a touch bitter.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 JEK69 (133) - FRANCE - APR 20, 2012
That’s not the first time I drink it. But the first time I sit down and rate it.
It pours deep red with a medium foam head.
Indeed this is a great nose: malty, yeasty, like all big Belgians.
In mouth, that’s OK, but a bit short, then Argh! Acetate, stripper-like flavours come, awful! Then that sweet aftertaste and sour agressive volatile acidity hurts my nose.
I probably had it from a wrong batch , too bad!
I’ll try it another time.

Everything you ever wanted from Belgian beer and even something more. The best Chimay and one of the best beers I think.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 kermis (962) - The Hague, NETHERLANDS - APR 19, 2012
Bottle at home. Brown pour with a big tan head. Aroma of plum, raisins, caramel. Dark fruit flavor also with caramel and raisins. Alcohol warmth in the finish. Lovely beer.
3.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 JakeWrobel (11) - - APR 16, 2012
A good beer for sure. However, if you have had any other Belgian beer, this is not the best around. St. Bernardus ABT 12 is better. Anyway, aroma is great, taste is great, appearance is like a Belgian should appear. Can’t go wrong with it though.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 HopfenWeisse (271) - - APR 15, 2012
Small bottle from bierzwerg. Poured to chimay chalice, dark amber colour with 2 finger head. Aroma cherry. Flavour is sweetish, nutty, raisin, maltly. Pairs nicely with chimay grand cru cheese.
