Chimay Blue is principally distinguished by its character of a strong beer. This is a beer whose fragrance of fresh yeast with a light, flowery rosy touch is especially pleasant. Its flavour, noticed when tasting it, only accentuates the pleasant sensations perceived in the aroma , while revealing a light but pleasant touch of roasted malt. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

A bottle from 2014. Great fruity, herbal, caramel, sweet malt aroma. Dark liquid, white head. Powerful well balanced high sweetness, that last for a long time. Light bitterness, too. Full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. A very good Belgian strong Ale!

Een typische Belgische trappist. Een donkere kleur en een goede neus. Ook een goede schuimkraag.

Maker: Chimay, Baileux, Belgium *** Beer: Chimay Trappist Grande Réserve Limited Edition 2014 (bottled, unfiltered, 750ml) *** Style: Belgian Strong Ale *** ALC.VOL.: 9.0% *** This is not the regular "Grande Reserve" Blue or Red beer from Chimay, but a special limited edition for 2014 (Best before: 2019!) *** Colour: Hazy dark copper, with a medium-sized, creamy light beige head. *** Nose: Preserved plums, cane sugar, a whiff of orange peel, toffee. *** Texture: Medium body, still a bit watery(!). Medium carbonation. *** Taste: Prunes, cane sugar, yeast, mild spices (licorice) and oranges at the start, but not cloyingly sweet. More licorice to come towards the middle, but with a hint of lemon and yeast to liven things up. Finish, too, has licorice, and toffee, cane sugar. Very mild, yeasty aftertaste. *** Impressions: Medium-heavy Belgian strong ale with a nice mix of flavours, but not too much body considering he 9% ABV. Will stick with you after a while - before it REALLY sticks with you.

aroma: banana, raisin, vanilla, alcohol, creamy, caramel, roasty. appearance: dark brown, hazy, brown foam, head forms relatively quickly, good retention. flavor: strong alcohol taste, raisins, caramel, slight fruity taste, slight astringency, long finish, no bitterness from hops. light sweetness. palate:medium body, slick feel, lively, slightly astringent. overall: a good beer, although alcoholic taste is a little too far forward. greatly enjoyed the raisins and banana which were not overbearing. much better than the brun version
