Bottle conditioned - 150 cl, 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles. Named Grande Réserve in 75 cl bottles, and Magnum Grande Réserve in 150 cl bottles.
Chimay Blue is principally distinguished by its character of a strong beer. This is a beer whose fragrance of fresh yeast with a light, flowery rosy touch is especially pleasant. Its flavour, noticed when tasting it, only accentuates the pleasant sensations perceived in the aroma , while revealing a light but pleasant touch of roasted malt. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

This is simply one of the best beers in the world that everyone should’ve tried. The dark colour, with the amber touch, great strong head that doesn’t dissapear and the great aroma is only the startup to a great beer experience. It’s a beer to combine with a nice steak or Belgium stew, or to drink on it’s own in the evening with some cheese. It’s a heavy bittersweet taste, with a smooth aftertaste. One of the better abbey beers.

Flaska frĺn SB. Nötig mörkbrun färg med stor luftig smutsbrun skumkrona. Söt doft av skumbanan och belgojäst. Medelfyllig torr halvsöt kropp. Smak av skumbanan, smörkola och citrus. Spritig, torr, frisk eftersmak.

Chimay Blue 9%, 33cl bottle part of the tasting set I got for Christmas and so served in the matching Chimay glass. It pours a dark opaque brown with a huge beige head of foam that leaves roapy belgian laces as it slowly subsides. The aroma is sharp & fruity with raisins, figs and sweet surgary spicy baked goods. Think a really nice glazed raisin cruller. Intially the carbonation is somewhat raspy like the Red but it segways into a smoothness fairly quickly. Medium bodied with a pillowy full mouthfeel the taste has more boozy heat that the Red with sharper flavors of sweet malts, candy sugar and dried fruits. A very dry finish primes you to have another sip. A different beast from the Red but still very nice.

Sampled in Brussels after many bottles in the States; I keep a case in my basement for seasoning. Captivating aroma with malt, touch of spice, chocolate, caramel. Perfect head in a tlip, tasted as fine as it smelled. Lasted a long and satisfying time. Just a touch more flavorful than the Chimay rouge. In its home country, even tastier and smoother than I am used to in Boston. A little more bite than the Saint Bernardus and the Westvleteren. A world class beer.

Pours very dark with a creamy, almost stout-like head which dissipates quickly. The aroma of Belgian yeast is strong. Tastes of caramel, raisin and more Belgian spices. Very smooth with a slight boozy kick at the finish. Well carbonated. Very nice

Pours a clear brown color, topped with a beige colored head. Caramel aroma with some fruity and yeast notes. Not bad. Taste sweet and malty, caramel is nice in there. Bitter finish with obvious notes of alcohol. Not a big fan of Belgian ales, but still quite nice.
