COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned - 150 cl, 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles. Named Grande Réserve in 75 cl bottles, and Magnum Grande Réserve in 150 cl bottles.
Chimay Blue is principally distinguished by its character of a strong beer. This is a beer whose fragrance of fresh yeast with a light, flowery rosy touch is especially pleasant. Its flavour, noticed when tasting it, only accentuates the pleasant sensations perceived in the aroma , while revealing a light but pleasant touch of roasted malt. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

330 ml bottle of the 2002 version. Normally Chimay Bleue improves massively with aging, so I was looking forward to this one. It was a major disappointment! It began all right, as the beer poured a nice reddish brown with a good firm and lasting head. But the aroma was very faint, with only a bit of chocolate and some burnt flavours showing through. On the palate this brew appeared lighter than its 9% alcohol. The taste was very one-dimensional and again dominated by a burnt caracter. In short the beer appeared tired and worn out.

Dark brown color. Bright, fruity, phenolic aroma with some raisins and cream cheese. Quite sweet and rich, but is very drinkable and well attenuated. Has a bit of light roasted flavors, not too much bitterness, and some spicy phenols. Excellent beer.

Jedno z moich ulubionych piw, ciemne, mętne, z bardzo złożonym smakiem i aromatem. Chyba nie trzeba nic dodawać. Klasyk

Upon opening the bottle, a very strong malt smell followed by dried fruit, clove, and hint of banana. Taste same as the smell, strong malty taste with a lots of dried fruits, clove and hint of alcohol. Surprisingly smooth for a 9% abv. Pretty good carbonation too. A sweet, fruity and non bitter after taste. Lovely.

0,33l bottle. Hazy brown colour with very long lasting big beige head. Aroma: Nuts, especially almond, black currant, chocolate a bit coffee and matured cheese!Taste: Sweet-sweet start with a light sweet/sour mouthfeel. Fruity, dessert like and mature. Almost no bitterness but who cares. Full body with soft carbonation. Long sweet/sour finish. Great and huge beer.

Piana kremowa, średnio pęcherzykowa, sycząca i dość szybko znikająca do niewielkiej pierzynki. Barwa rubinowa, opalizująca. Aromat delikatny, jest trochę karmelu, suszonych i kandyzowanych owoców, nieco ziół, akacji, porto i starego chmielu. W smaku półsłodkie, znacznie bogatsze i intensywniejsze niż w zapachu, przede wszystkim rodzynki, daktyle i figi, kandyzowana skórka pomarańczowa, toffi, przyprawy. Goryczka niska, ziołowa. Wysycenie średnie, puszyste. gładkie i lepkie w odbiorze. Alkohol rozgrzewający, kojarzący się właśnie z porto i sherry.
Klasyczny Belgian Strong Ale, praktycznie Quadrupel - wyraźnie po słodkiej stronie, mocno estrowy, delikatnie fenolowy, gładki i treściwy. Odrobinkę do poprawy jedynie aromat, co jednak zostało zrekompensowane w smaku.
Ps.
Piwo leżakowane ponad 1,5 roku.

0,75l, pantu 2010. BBE 2015. Lovely deep brown/ruby pour with tan foam. Plenty of yeasty esters, bread, dried red fruit, all the Belgian good stuff. Lovely.

Well this is just a great beer. Very dark in colour head off white but soon gone ( from a bottle) taste of malt hops and I have to say chocolate for me. Taste for a strong ale is very pleasing a beer to be enjoyed and not rushed.

Dark brown with strong light beige head. Earthy with herbs, licorice, dried fruit and malt. Yeast, malt, sweetness and more of the fruit. Medium body with smooth palate and a long malty finish. A great beer as always but this particular individual has probably been shaken too much recently.
