COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned - 150 cl, 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles. Named Grande Réserve in 75 cl bottles, and Magnum Grande Réserve in 150 cl bottles.
Chimay Blue is principally distinguished by its character of a strong beer. This is a beer whose fragrance of fresh yeast with a light, flowery rosy touch is especially pleasant. Its flavour, noticed when tasting it, only accentuates the pleasant sensations perceived in the aroma , while revealing a light but pleasant touch of roasted malt. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

330 ml bottle of the 2002 version. Normally Chimay Bleue improves massively with aging, so I was looking forward to this one. It was a major disappointment! It began all right, as the beer poured a nice reddish brown with a good firm and lasting head. But the aroma was very faint, with only a bit of chocolate and some burnt flavours showing through. On the palate this brew appeared lighter than its 9% alcohol. The taste was very one-dimensional and again dominated by a burnt caracter. In short the beer appeared tired and worn out.

The best (stout) beer in the world, simple as that, and she’s less expensive than a Rochefort or worst a Westvleteren and she’s more easy to find in France. I highly recommand this product but that’s a strong one !

33cl bottle pours cloudy ruddy orange brown with a big rocky tan colored head. Aroma is of toasty malts and caramel. Tastes like raisins, spices, and the alcohol is well hidden. Bubbly clean mouthfeel and slightly dry finish.

the aroma of caramel, dark fruits and port with hints of toffee and chocolate... the taste spicy, caramel and fruity with shades of red wine, flowers and spices... sweet, dry and warming aftertaste...

Cloudy brown extensive white head head. Aroma and taste of banana, cloves, brown sugar and caramel. Very well balanced and very smooth. Magnificent when aged for a year or two.

Belle robe couleur noisette. La mousse apparaît facilement et tient bien. Arômes de malt dominants. Saveur plutôt douce. Assez longue en bouche. Arrière goût de miel et de prunes. Une très bonne trappiste.

Pours a very dark red with a large light brown head. Sweet malty aromas, caramel, berries, maybe a bit of apple, smells very rich. Thick texture with an average amount of carbonation, a little sticky and has a nice bitter finish. Has a slightly sweet honey taste, some raisin and berries and a very nice warming alcohol flavor. My first of hopefully more Trappist style beers.
