Bottle conditioned - 150 cl, 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles. Named Grande Réserve in 75 cl bottles, and Magnum Grande Réserve in 150 cl bottles.
Chimay Blue is principally distinguished by its character of a strong beer. This is a beer whose fragrance of fresh yeast with a light, flowery rosy touch is especially pleasant. Its flavour, noticed when tasting it, only accentuates the pleasant sensations perceived in the aroma , while revealing a light but pleasant touch of roasted malt. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

UPDATED: JUL 17, 2012 Bouteille 750ml (Grande réserve). 2011. Couleur brun ambré, mousse crème laissant une belle dentelle. Bonne effervescence.

Great beer. I had it a number of times and it was always great. Very nice aroma of caramel and dark fruits, and similar in taste with a little warmth of alcohol which is very well hidden. Very tasty, very drinkable. A touch of beauty, art and greatness in the glass.

Pours a deep Amber color, aroma is malt, lots of dark fruit, sugar, hint of alcohol, spice - almost like all spice? - taste definitely malt and dark fruit, hint of alcohol, creamy and smooth. Pretty damn good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours with an average, light brown head with good lacing. Definite murky body that’s brown in color. Aromas of tobacco, musty earth and leather, and slight rotten eggs (not in a bad way). Definitely a long-duration flavor, with moderate sweetness. An excellent session beer.

Pours a nice, murky reddish brown with a think, bubbly head. Some dark fruity notes in the nose and Belgian yeast. Flavor builds on the aroma and it has the typical extra fizzy tingle on the tongue you would expect from a Belgian strong. Definitely a classic of the style and one that I come back to every so often.

When the aroma is less, I feel that I can’t feel/taste the beer. A good beer for sure but since I’m living in Belgium this is not the most special one for me. However I love Trappist beers!

About time I stopped dragging my feet and drank this beer. Having finally had it, I’m happy to say that it lives up to the hype and is worth the cost. Chimay Blue is sexy (well, as sexy as Belgian dark ales can be) with its brown color and awesome head. Smell is distinctly fruity - grape, cherry, plum, raisin - and malty sweet with caramel and candy-like booze aromas. Flavor has complexity to spare. Caramel, brown sugar, nuts, raisin, yeast, toasted malt, cherry, and grape. Like the best Belgian beers, Blue continues to unveil it’s character as you drink it. The sheer amount of flavors would overload your palate if it weren’t balanced so well. Mouthfeel manages to be creamy and lively at the same time. For what it’s worth, this beer loves to be paired with rich cheese and game meat.

Aroma of malt with a hint of Belgian yeast, cloudy brown color with a lasting white head. Creamy feel with a complex taste of nuts, fruit and malt with a sweet finish.
