Bottle conditioned - 150 cl, 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles. Named Grande Réserve in 75 cl bottles, and Magnum Grande Réserve in 150 cl bottles.
Chimay Blue is principally distinguished by its character of a strong beer. This is a beer whose fragrance of fresh yeast with a light, flowery rosy touch is especially pleasant. Its flavour, noticed when tasting it, only accentuates the pleasant sensations perceived in the aroma , while revealing a light but pleasant touch of roasted malt. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

One may ask, how the hell can you have had 1600+ beers and never had this 100/100 classic that’s in every grocery store for 300 miles in any direction? And my answer would probably be "I can get that any time, but I can only get this [ipa, DIPA, BA imperial stout] that tastes like every other [ipa, DIPA, BA imperial stout] for a limited time." Which is stupid after a few years in the game, and there’s a good chance it’d last even longer had I not found it on draft in an adorable 4oz pour that I could tick. When I write this all out, actually, it sounds more sad than amusing, like if you were sitting next to a dude at a bar who had this tiny beers out in front of him furiously typing a novel into his phone, you’d want to say "wtf dude, just sit back and drink a fucking beer and enjoy it man." But you wouldn’t, because it’s 2015 and half of the sorry sots sitting at the bar are looking at their phone. But, I digress. Dark ruby pour, creamy head, great thick sheets of lacing. Aroma is awesome - dark fruit, plums, candi, clove. Pretty much a classic Belgian strong dark nose, executed to perfection. Taste follows - sweetness is there, but never overpowering as so many lesser examples are. Beautiful malt driven balance. Articulating how I feel pretty much all that comes to mind is "sexy awesome." Full body, velvet texture. Overall: fantastic. I’m an idiot. I should drink this all the time. But I probably won’t.

20 years after the first try, this is still something that I enjoy often. A fantastic beer with an even more fantastic history.

9%ABV. Belgian Ale. Poured out a dark brown. 35ºSRM Nose has some faintly funky acetic aromas with wet yeast. Mouthfeel is carbonated with an alcoholic palate. The palate has some honeyed dates and stone fruit. Quite pleasant.

Bottle, 33 cl. Clear dark brown body with foamy beige head. Slightly sweet, malty aroma with notes of spices, alcohol and yeast. Rich malty taste with medium caramel sweetness and light bitterness. There are spicy and yeasty flavours. Medium body with foamy and prickly carbonation. Some alcohol. Dry and spicy finish. A great example of a dark belgian ale. I do not appreciate this type of carbonation, but aside from that it is very tasty.

Bottle from Alko, Kokkola ( 2015). Great fruity, herbal, caramel, sweet malt aroma. Dark liquid, white head. Powerful well balanced high sweetness, that last for a long time. Light bitterness, too. Full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation. Very nice!
