Bottle conditioned - 150 cl, 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles. Named Grande Réserve in 75 cl bottles, and Magnum Grande Réserve in 150 cl bottles.
Chimay Blue is principally distinguished by its character of a strong beer. This is a beer whose fragrance of fresh yeast with a light, flowery rosy touch is especially pleasant. Its flavour, noticed when tasting it, only accentuates the pleasant sensations perceived in the aroma , while revealing a light but pleasant touch of roasted malt. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

Suprisingly, the taste is very light. The high alcohol content is masked very well. It is a good beer, but I don't think it is anything special

Color is dark red, hazy. Head is short living, sparkling. Aroma: prunes, alcohol, plum wine, some Maillard products. Taste: moderate sweeteness, light to medium bitterness, light to medium fruit sourness. Flavour has plum wine, prunes, dried sour cherries, sherry, complex roasted notes. Light metall notes in the aftertaste. Overall this is a good but not the great.

Good, strong beer. Not too sweet, which is good. Good carbonation. Just not special enough. Was expecting much more.

Grand Reserve, 2003. Large creamy off-white head and a hazy dark brown body. Basement aromas, lots of coffee, brown sugar, prunes, figns, alcohol. The taste is heavy sweet and light bitter. Oily texture.

Bottle vintage 2010. Deep, dark brown. Medium bodied with some winey and roasted malt notes, dried fruit, raisins most of all. Very sherry-like. Nice carbonation. Mild bitterness on the palate. Very good.
