COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned - 150 cl, 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles. Named Grande Réserve in 75 cl bottles, and Magnum Grande Réserve in 150 cl bottles.
Chimay Blue is principally distinguished by its character of a strong beer. This is a beer whose fragrance of fresh yeast with a light, flowery rosy touch is especially pleasant. Its flavour, noticed when tasting it, only accentuates the pleasant sensations perceived in the aroma , while revealing a light but pleasant touch of roasted malt. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

A very nice beer with a smell of some spices and possibly some yeast. A fine dark colour with a beige head. Good taste with some karamell in it. Light bitterness and maybe some fruit in taste. You do feel some of the high ABV in the taste.

Cloudy brown earth with big head. Lively. Aroma of plum, raisin, sugars, alcohol. Rich, strong taste, maybe a little too much alcohol but otherwise very good. Better than the Rouge.

A: Chestnut brown. Off white skim. A tad bit of lacing left behind. S: Malty. Bready. Caramel. Slight undefined spices. Some of the 9% shinning through. T: Rich bready malts accentuated by figs and caramel. Slight bit of spicy alcohol towards the end. M: Smooth. Medium Bodied. Subtle carbonation. D: Decent. A few other brews in this style are a bit more pleasing on the stomach and make for a more enjoyable experience, but this is a classic which needs to be experimented with.

Wish I could try one that had been stored for 5-10 years as someone wrote... As it stands, and based on a fresh batch, this is still a bloody good beer. Pours medium brown with a big tan head. Aroma is sweet caramel and wheat malts, belgian yeast, brown sugar, dark dried fruits (raisins, figs etc). Definitely some spices in there as well, of course. Taste is similarly sweet yet balanced, with lots of malts and yeast dominating but the hops balancing the whole thing up. Body is medium - actually kind of light but definitely not in a bad way - with a perfect amount of carbonation.

caramel, cereal, coffee, coffee brown, full body, Bottled. A must. It smells and tastes torrefaction with a really good dosage. The ratio quality/availability is the better

The body was an excellent deep brown, slightly hazy and had a sea-foam head. Aromas were pungent of fig, raisins, yeast, chocolate and alcohol. The flavor was great, full of dark fruits with alcohol with a smooth mouth feel. Finishes warm, spicy and satisfyingly sweet.

Bottle 2010. Chimay Bleue is hazy brown coloured beer with long lasting small foamy, off-white head. Belgian yeasty fruity aroma is a bit alcoholic. Very malty taste stays long time and has a bitter ending. Full bodied, greatly balanced classic.
