COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned - 150 cl, 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles. Named Grande Réserve in 75 cl bottles, and Magnum Grande Réserve in 150 cl bottles.
Chimay Blue is principally distinguished by its character of a strong beer. This is a beer whose fragrance of fresh yeast with a light, flowery rosy touch is especially pleasant. Its flavour, noticed when tasting it, only accentuates the pleasant sensations perceived in the aroma , while revealing a light but pleasant touch of roasted malt. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

Bottle 75 cl. Pours a deep plum colour with a thin white head, the aroma is malty with plenty of fruit and some spice, the taste is also malty with fruit., with a smooth finish.

Well, it’s the finest of the three Chimay’s’s I’ve done had. The fizziness is business but the bubble is subtle. Pours scrumptiously into a Chimay tulip glass and down my throat, but not often, because I’m broke as hell.

Date: August 2, 2011 Mode: Bottle Source: Discount Liquor, Waukesha, WI Appearance: Opaque brown and large amount of off-white head. Aroma: Sweet, raisin, yeast. Flavor: Consistent with aroma, some carbonation, medium bodied and mild alcohol in the finish. Other: Pretty good, but rating suffered a little because the alcohol finish was a little too much for me.

Grande indeed. Aroma of raisins and caramelized sugar. Taste is less sweet, bringing in some hop bitterness. Excellent balance and complexity.

Murky brown in colour with a small beige head. Aroma is bread, brown sugar, pear and raisins. Robust taste with brown sugar, malt, dates with a good balance between the sweet elements and the subtle hop bitterness.

UPDATED: JAN 16, 2012 One of my all time favourites!! Great beer, the bigger the bottle, the better it gets!! Update: bottle from 2011, so for about 6 months old i guess. The dark chocolates, the roasted malts, the bitterness, then again the lovely caramel sweetness, this is a great beer.
