COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle conditioned - 150 cl, 75 cl, and 33 cl bottles. Named Grande Réserve in 75 cl bottles, and Magnum Grande Réserve in 150 cl bottles.
Chimay Blue is principally distinguished by its character of a strong beer. This is a beer whose fragrance of fresh yeast with a light, flowery rosy touch is especially pleasant. Its flavour, noticed when tasting it, only accentuates the pleasant sensations perceived in the aroma , while revealing a light but pleasant touch of roasted malt. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

Dark amber colored beer, small head that had quickly disappeared. Average smell, pretty nice taste. Nice carbo, medium to full body.

Very sweet and balanced. This dark strong Belgian ale tastes far different from it’s rough competitors. This beer is very sweet, a slight taste of some caramel and it hides it’s alcohol percentage very well. As a matter of fact any signs of an alcohol or bitter taste are far from noticeable and it is overall very nice and malt.

Pretty baller. The belgians know their shit when it comes to beer. Very rich and flavorful beer. Doesn’t taste alcoholic at all, but gets you drunk.

Reddish brown with a off-white head. Sweet, caramel, plums...both fresh and dried...undefined spices...yeast. Some alcohol warmth but it’s not intruding. Complex and interesting.

Bottle 33 cl. Poured brown in colour with thick creamy tan head. Nice appearance. Lots of dried black fruits as dadels and plums in aroma. Some pleasant sweetness also in form of brown sugar. Has to be one of the more perfect aroma so far. Leaves a nice, albeit quite quickly fading lacing on the glass. Flavour is malty sweet at first. Then in comes plums, raisins, brown sugar and some light spices as well. Very much going on here. Also some dough in the flavour. Very pleasant sweet and dark fruits mixed with some spices and even a slightly nutty aftertaste.

Aroma has a lot of raisins. It is syrup-like sweet. Palate has just the right amount of CO2. Taste has a lots of raisins and some sweet, malty bread but it is not disturbingly sweet though. It does get too sweet when it warms up. Very nicely aged. Tasted in 2000-2002-2003-2005-2006-2007-2008-2010 comparison. This was the best bottle while others varied between 3.6 and 3.9.
