Commercial Description:
Chimay Bleu is principally distinguished by its character of a strong beer. This is a beer whose fragrance of fresh yeast with a light, flowery rosy touch is especially pleasant. Its flavour, noticed when tasting it, only accentuates the pleasant sensations perceived in the aroma , while revealing a light but pleasant touch of roasted malt. This top fermented Trappist beer, refermented in the bottle, is not pasteurised.

This is a big malt beer. Nothing else shows through. Dark in color and cloudy, sweet and carmely, full of various rich malt flavors. No hops to speak of. Higher alcohol, but decadent to the last drop. Truely a king among the Belgians.

Bottle: Pours a lighter shade of brown, with medium head. Tastes of roasted malts, raisins, and a hint of citris. Little or no lacing. Very enjoyable and a refreshing bubbly aftertaste.

2008 version. best before 2013Bottle 75cl shared with girlfriend. Potent corkRocketLauncher but it didnt spill over after sending the cork in orbit. pours a dark redBrown with a yellow light brown head. aroma of spices, very nice spices, raisins, faint banana, dark fruits. very balanced and well mixed. almost as if it had been on wood or something. flavor is a little less sophisticated than the aroma. alc easily detectable, mouthfeel a bit bubbly, beneath the alc. is a well balanced belgian style brew. i sense some cellar or cork. re-rate.75cl bottle vintage 2007. alc. not as dominating this time. bumps up overall from 13 to 15, flavor from 6 to 7. also palate is okay. 2 to 3

330ml bottle 2008 Vintage. Pours a dark brown/ruby color, very nice carbonation with a huge creamy head that lasts a long time. Very nice lacing afterwards. Scents. of malt, raisins/grapes. Very nice sweet/bitter taste with a slight alcohol warming feel. Medium body. This is a very drinkable brew from Chimay at 9% ABV the alcohol is hidden very well. Highly recommended.

It took me a while to get around to it. It’s my first Belgian Strong Ale. I guess it’s pretty good, but it’s not my style. I will have to try it again some time.
