kpresley77 (49), Jackson, Georgia, USA May 15, 2008 11.2 oz. bottle pours reddish brown with little cream head. Strong aroma of alcohol and grapes. Taste is some citrius and malt clean finish. Does not taste like a 9% ABV beer. Very nice.
tedovertu (69), Apple Valley, Minnesota, USA Jul 5, 2008 Bottle, Large white head. Hazy brown body. Light plum/prune/cherry flavor. Medium body with average carbonation. Lightly acidic. Muted but pretty good. Rockfort 8 is a little better. 1_2many (101), Ohio, USA Jul 5, 2008 Finally tried this one and it did not disappoint. Fabulous darkfruit aroma with some roasty malt and a touch of yeast. Very sweet and silky smooth on the tongue. Aftertaste is nothing but pleasant and warming. I’ll definitely get this again. AvidDirtman (3), , Japan does not count Jul 5, 2008 Absolutely zero head on this baby. Another much-maligned readily available trappist beer that has suffered due to its popularity. Not being a prima donna, I’m gonna say that this is a great beer. An interesting literal and metaphorical tongue sizzle from beginning to end. Appreciating a good beer is like making love to a beautiful woman...no two muffs are alike and sometimes i’m inclined to something a little rough around the edges (i am an AvidDirtman after all).
I’m fascinated by the different colours in the glass. The outer rim seems light brown fading into a hazelnut utopia. The nose is a mixed bag of nuts and it has a malty, milk chocolate palatte. Yeah we’ve all drank westveleteren (and i have - tis an amazing brew) but this is still perfectly drinkable beer that would still be held in high regard if it weren’t for some other indescribable beauties out there. drunkbeer (13), London, Greater London, England Jul 5, 2008 To be real I don’t see what all the fuss is with Chimay products. They getta lotta props- but they’re kinda ordinary really. Chimay Bleue is a good beer but nothin’ awesome . .Chimay Bleue is the best beer in their catalouge and this beer does have a special place in my boozey heart. I recall one night when i ws still new to drinking strong Belgian beer in 2003. Seven of these 330ml stubbie bottles and I was passed out on the lawn with a broken Leffe goblet. . Ok its a chocolatey beer as a large chracteristic . There’s dark fruit like raisins.Grapefruit texture from the surprisingly floral hoppiness for a strong dark beer. The coolest of the Chimay’s. DutchCrow (13), Alkmaar, Netherlands Jul 3, 2008 One of my favorites. Very nice dark color with a decent head. Gets better every taste. Especially the last part of the glass is fantastic. It’s not too sweet, not to bitter, not too fruity. Just a perfect strong ale with just the right amount of alcohol.
