UPDATED: FEB 24, 2008 Bottle. A chance to have this one once again is not the offer to reject, but this time I was a bit disappointed. It had been cellared for 30 months, and maybe that was a bad idea. It had a rather pale golden pour with a white head. Quite weak nose, with sweetness and some earthy notes. The flavor wasn’t bad either, but there was some wet cardboard that I could easily do without, as well as sweetness and some honey-like flavor. Thin body. Light nutty finish. Drinkable but disappointing. I think a fresher sample is a better idea. Rating: 5-3-5-3-10-2.6. Old rating left un-altered. (080118)

Bottled at Bishops Arms, Gothenburg. I admit it, it’s ridiculous to pay 210 SEK for a bottle, but just had to, and I didn’t pay for it all on my own. It pours hazy, golden orange, with sediments and an off-white head. Camfer, honey, some spices and notes of hay in the aroma. The flavor is sweet, with honey and spices. Thin body, sticky and dry in the mouth. Sweet finish. It’s a better beer than I excpected, and definately more suitable for drinking and working, than their other beers. (060825)

Gift from SJ. Not chimay’s best, but a nice brew. Some good notes of bread, dark fruit and spice.

Pours slightly muted deep yellow color with an overflowing white head that settles as a thin blanket as I clean up the overflow on he table. Smells bright, peppery, hoppy, some fruitiness. Taste is Yeasty, some pepper and light fruitiness. The body is light and the carbonation is active. An interesting beer and quite drinkable. I will likely grab some whenever I can when I visit Belgium.

33 cl bottle as ”Chimay Dorée” @ hotel room, Bruges. Rated on 16.07.2010
Aroma has citrus and some orange peel. Flavour is refreshing with soapy citrus, some floral notes, hints of wheat and orange peel. Feels like a witbier. Would probably work with food.

Pours a light golden peach with sediment floating around. The head is super creamy white or off white. The nose has loads of sweet lemon and light zest. There is a nice peppery spice with some citrus and floral hops behind. Taste is much of the same, ripe lemon, not tart, light peppery spice balances with an assertive juicy citrus and floral hop finish with an accompanying bitterness. The body is light, soft, and creamy with a gentle carbonation and dry finish. very juicy, balanced, sessionable, and tasty.
