Bleekgoud, nevelig bier met kleine witte schuimkraag. Aroma is sinaasappel, gist, hop. Droge nasmaak, licht bitter. Fris biertje, maar weinig body en maakt ook weinig indruk.

Maker: Chimay Brewery, Baileux, Belgium ***
Beer: Chimay Corée / Spéciale du Potaupré (bottled, unfiltered, 330ml) ***
Style: Belgian Ale ***
ALC.VOL.: 4.8% ***
"Historically not sold in the commerce. Only available at Auberge de Poteaupré, Chimay, Belgium, as "Speciale De Poteaupré". This beer is usually reserved for the use of the Chimay Trappists. " [brewery note] ***
Colour: Bright hazy orange, with a medizum-sized, very fluffy off-white head. ***
Nose: Quince marmalade, coriander, floral hops. yeast. ***
Texture: Medium body, hardly watery. Active carbonation. ***
Taste: Quince, yeast, mild spices and herbs at the start. Lemon. Coriander is stronger towards the middle, with lemon and herbs. Finish is yeasty, lemony. Coriander very much present in the after taste. Again, with yeast.
Impressions: Lighter than any other Chimay Trappistes (and, indeed, most other Belgian beers), this ale is not unlike a Whitbier: yeasty, with coriander, and lemony notes. The quince only makes it fruitier. Good beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Sampled from an 11.2 oz brown bottle this beer poured a murky flat gold-apricot color with a huge foamy yellow-white lingered and left decent lacing. The aroma was yeasty and musty with coriander, lemon, sugar, vague fruits and a bit of sweetness underneath. The flavor was dryish, tart and perfumey with notes of coriander, yeast and dust. Medium length finish. Medium body. Decent.

F: huge snow white, not long lasting.
C: hazy yellow/orange, non-transparent.
A: nice citrusy, coriander, floral hops, yeast.
T: very light, citrusy, yeast earthy, malt, coriander, decent sweetness, mild dry finish, medium body, lively carbonation, great for summer days, great Belgian ale anyway.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Very light straw color. High carbonation with a soapy, white head. Fresh smell....coriander? Light grass, mild hops, citrus - lemon or orange peel, and some spice in taste. Belgium yeast taste. Crisp.
This is like a high end Belgium Pale Ale. It is good, but for the price point, I would go with another Chimay - or go with a cheaper pale ale. If cost was not a concern, this would be a go to session beer for the summer.

From elcervecero. In La Trappe chalice. Playing Goodbye Deponia. A bit less tasty than the red one but much more sessionable and refreshing. Good aroma. Midly citric taste

Hardly recognized this bottle, and was surprised to find it in Washington. I guess it snuck it’s way up here. Bottle purchased and poured at Malt and Vine. $4.99. Pours a bright golden color with an active patchy fizz head. Near absent aroma with subtle malt. Very high carb here, which I can’t say I expected. Rich belgian yeast flavor and mild spice. Has a lot of floral notes to it late. Overall a good beer.
